Get it Done December 2025

Continuing the tradition of the past 5 years, we have an end-of-the-year challenge.

Get it Done December and will run from December 1 to December 31.

The goal for Get it Done December is to clear out those lingering tasks that you thought you would get done in 2024 You must declare them and try to finish them before the year’s end.

You can also “extinguish” the task and guilt-free-ditch any resolutions or goals that simply couldn’t or didn’t happen this year. Let them go!

Examples of Get it Done December tasks:

  • Call up a friend that you haven’t checked in with much this year
  • Cancel recurring subscriptions that you don’t use
  • Finally get a “hit by a bus” folder together (find a checklist in A Cat’s Guide to Money )
  • Calling up your phone or cable company and negotiating a new rate
  • Finally set up an IRA and autodeposit
  • Call your credit card company and move to a no-fee card
  • Organize and categorize your stash of yarn or fabric before you rebuy things you don’t need
  • Eat down your pantry
  • Listing or donating clothes or electronics you’re ready to pass on
  • Set up or clear out monthly donations, or maybe even join the OMD Purrsonal Finance Society (cheeky plug there)
  • Be creative!

It will have a special forum badge.

Basic rules:

  1. You must establish your own rules about what you are trying to accomplish as your Get it Done December task(s) this month. State them in the first week of the month to get us kicked off.
  2. Each weekend (starting December 7th) YOUR Local Time, you will report how you did on your challenge for the week on this thread. You can report where you’re at and what your biggest challenge and victories of the week were.

Who This Challenge is For

  • Anyone who wants a little public accountability and weekly discussion about their goals.

What do you get out of participating?

  • Deep Satisfaction of working on those tasks that hang over your head and not bringing them into a new year
  • A community to support you as you get sh*t done
  • A CUTE forum badge for participating in the weekly check-ins

If you’re in to participate (or on the fence and need encouragement), comment below with your tasks for Get it Done December below

Unlikely to do anything after in laws arrive Dec 17, before then the list is:

  • get car cleaned (v gross inside) :white_check_mark:
  • get car loan :white_check_mark:
  • (stretch) buy car
  • receive and assemble 3 IKEA cabinets
  • unpack and put away board games
  • clean up guestroom
  • put up tree
  • oh yeah, buy/order gifts for all
  • register for birth class (class will be in Jan)

Some of these overlap with pre baby tasks (unpacking/cleaning/car).

I want to add more but realistically, thats plenty. Legal stuff and nursery setup will wait till Jan!

Update 12/04 hell yeah on our way

I have so many of these types of things.

But first and foremost and kinda the only thing that matters at this point:

Get a new job!

This is my main goal for December. If I achieve it, I will think about other things.

Ooh. Me.

  • Grade all the things
  • Order four more presents
  • Wrap all the presents
  • Update ‘hit by a bus’ folder so I won’t have to spend the night before surgery sending locations of all our accounts to a friend on husband’s behalf ever again
  • Put the above into a shared Google sheet (ditto)
  • Celebrate the fifth birthday of the best dogs in the world

That’s enough.

Thank-you for starting this @Candygirl ! :slightly_smiling_face: I have had my December freed up quite a bit. DD#2 has decided to come home for 2 hours late Christmas Eve. That means we aren’t going to my sister’s for the holidays, as she’s almost 3 hours out of town.

Sooo…

My goals are to:

  • cook and host the Scandinavian dinner and games night,
  • Work the community table at a craft fair,
  • finish sewing my original designed tote bags,
  • Finish machine quilting an appliqué quilt,
  • Finish a visual journal from a trip taken in 2017!
  • Finish spinning my multicoloured yarn.
  • Finish spinning some multicoloured blue yarn.
  • Finish Sketchbook Revival 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Anything after that is icing on the cake. I have quite a few unfinished projects.

This year’s goal will be a re-org / Purge of the kitchen.

When we moved in, we just kinda - unpacked everything to wherever. And, with four people using the kitchen, everyone has a different idea of where some things belong.

So Kitchen Goals:

  • Purge the cupboards
  • Install better organization (ie, there is one cupboard that has no shelves and is just a cavern - it needs - something)
  • Re-organize the pantry and adjust shelves to logical heights (previous owner Very Much liked consistency, and so every shelf is the same height throughout the kitchen. There is no where that anything ‘tall’ fits properly)

Yes I will do it! I will do the things in December. Placeholder for me to come back and add The Things

Things:

  • While I remain employed, figure out the estate planning benefit. We really need a will; we have two kids sheesh
  • Clear enough of the office out that we can put the pack and play in there

Honestly…that’s enough

Need to do this…starting with a couple things in progress that I need to finish up, cancelling two accounts I never use, but I’ll be adding more once I have time to sit down and think.

I will:

  • Deal with doom pile in lounge
  • Doom pile in dining
  • Kitchen bench cleared

The doom piles are covering a large portion of the floor on each room. They must be removed by Christmas.

My painful tasks:

1.Mileage forms still this is hanging over my head but it’s so painful.
2. Submit resume for review to employment support place. I know I’m not job hunting but my friend told me it’s worth it to have it.
3. Christmas baking.
4. More decluttering.

All right, specifying a few more things. I’m sure I’ll think of other stuff I want to get done, and I have no how many I’ll get to, but I want to get these down before I forget them:

  • Close 2 unused accounts
  • Finish puzzle inventory
  • Finish outreach supply inventory
  • Rearrange storage to fit in new shelves
  • Get neighbor to finally take cinderblock shelves (probably a long shot)
  • Wrap/drop off non-Angel tree gifts
  • Wrap/figure out delivery method for parent/parent’s spouse gifts
  • Clean fridge (soap and scrubbing, the food is fine)
  • Inventory/clean out food storage supplies
  • Scrub down shower in spare bath
  • Hunt down dental/optometrist receipts and submit for FSA reimbursement
  • Fill out tax forms for local charities (which I send to the state, and then they send back, and then I have to submit again with my taxes, but whatever)
