Get it Done December: 2024

Continuing the tradition of the past 4 years, we have an end-of-the-year challenge.

Get it Done December and will run from December 1 to December 31.

The goal for Get it Done December is to clear out those lingering tasks that you thought you would get done in 2024 You must declare them and try to finish them before the year’s end.

You can also “extinguish” the task and guilt-free-ditch any resolutions or goals that simply couldn’t or didn’t happen this year. Let them go!

Examples of Get it Done December tasks:

  • Call up a friend that you haven’t checked in with much this year
  • Cancel recurring subscriptions that you don’t use
  • Finally get a “hit by a bus” folder together (find a checklist in A Cat’s Guide to Money )
  • Calling up your phone or cable company and negotiating a new rate
  • Finally set up an IRA and autodeposit
  • Call your credit card company and move to a no-fee card
  • Organize and categorize your stash of yarn or fabric before you rebuy things you don’t need
  • Eat down your pantry
  • Listing or donating clothes or electronics you’re ready to pass on
  • Set up or clear out monthly donations, or maybe even join the OMD Purrsonal Finance Society (cheeky plug there)
  • Be creative!

It will have a special forum badge.

Basic rules:

  1. You must establish your own rules about what you are trying to accomplish as your Get it Done December task(s) this month. State them in the first week of the month to get us kicked off.
  2. Each weekend (starting December 7th) YOUR Local Time, you will report how you did on your challenge for the week on this thread. You can report where you’re at and what your biggest challenge and victories of the week were.

Who This Challenge is For

  • Anyone who wants a little public accountability and weekly discussion about their goals.

What do you get out of participating?

  • Deep Satisfaction of working on those tasks that hang over your head and not bringing them into a new year
  • A community to support you as you get sh*t done
  • A CUTE forum badge for participating in the weekly check-ins

If you’re in to participate (or on the fence and need encouragement), comment below with your tasks for Get it Done December below

I’m in faster than a doggo stealing a dirty sock.

Most of my tasks are house-related, because my get-up-and-go has seemingly got up and left.

  • Sand, prime, and paint new front porch posts (and buy remaining supplies needed)

  • Get gutter installed on new front porch roof

  • Finish removing leaves in backyard

  • Attempt to install weatherstripping on small garage door

  • Frame and hang art in my office

  • Finish putting steel wool in old mouse holes

  • Install garage gardening tool rack

  • Actually set up the water leak detector sensor I bought ages ago

  • Finish digging up rocks and landscape fabric in front yard

  • Dig up rocks and landscape fabric in at least 1 backyard garden bed

  • Measure existing backyard garden beds for planning

I…think that’s probably enough. lol.

Oh yeah! I’m in! I will have medical appointments and surgery the first week of December. So a lot of my goals will be sedentary things. But there’s a lot like that to do here. Let me look around and create a list.

I am tentatively in. This time of year is so fucking busy at work but we’ll see what happens.

  1. Get rid of the stack of papers sitting on the floor in my room
  2. Get rid of the stack of papers on my dresser (Are you sensing a theme here?)
  3. Make up a list of accounts/passwords for Dad to keep in case I get hit by a bus and they need to get into my accounts
  4. Get on the treadmill at least 2x a week

A lot of mine are sort of work related - is that cheating ?

  • Finish poster presentation for conference January 9th
  • Prep either three or four classes, depending on whether that one class makes or not
  • Go make cookies with my mom one day since her family Christmas isn’t going to happen this year
  • Help young friend go do name change paperwork before the new regime sets in

My list isn’t long, but there’s a lot to do with each item…time consuming things. But I’ll be recovering from surgery, so hopefully will have time?

  • go through MacBook Pro and delete duplicate photos.
  • Transfer old photos to iCloud (right now it isn’t synced to iCloud, to prevent duplication of photos there.
  • sort through all my old user IDs and passwords. Figure out what’s good and what isn’t. Close all accounts I’m no longer using…if possible. I’m having issues with flick’r.
  • watch the courses I’ve downloaded in the past. Great Courses.
  • write blog posts for my Ko-fi site.
  • finish reading “The Big Book of Hand Spinning”! It truly is a big book!
  • enjoy Christmas!

In! We legally changed our names and I am handling the 800 million bank account updates, etc. I would love to have all of those at least submitted by the end of the year.

In. This is needed for one last push to get slow-moving things listed & either sold or donated if they don’t sell.

  • Box1 of patterns
  • Box2 of patterns
  • Fabric
  • Patio item: table, storage box, chairs
  • Surplus knee scooter

That’s probably do-able. Bonus points for setting up the scanner and scanning anything at all.

Edit: one more thing - try to bring desktop sit/stand unit back to the office. If that happens, then list surplus desk, surplus monitor & lamp trapped behind desks.

Do you already know about the same passport offices? I didn’t want to be separated from my passport for a month or more and it was a great option.

I do. The bigger issue is that I have never had one, and it is expensive to acquire.
