Fragrant pet friendly plant that grows well indoors?
@PDM @CalBal @noitsbecky ? (Whoever))
I got dogs. They leave my plants alone. I wouldnāt describe any of my indoor plants as fragrant though. I go for more attractive foliage. I have a grab bag of basic houseplant guy plants. ZZ, fiddle leaf figs, ficus.
I mostly donāt grow things inside because 1. I suck at it (I donāt know why!) And 2. My cats will chew on literally anything and even if not toxic, it will still probably make them barf. So I have to carefully segregate things like garden starts and I do t really grow ornamentals
Sorry! Not very helpful.
But I am pretty sure ficus and zz plant are toxic to cats. (Check the ASPCA list for sure.)
Basil.
I approve.
I donāt know of any fragrant indoor plants. Could you grow jasmine indoors? I wonder. That would be lovely. I also donāt know what plants are pet-friendly. My dog hates vegetables!
So all I know is easy. The easiest ever is pothos! And then ZZ plants, snake plants, spider plants, monsteras, philodendron. Ferns and succulants die on me.
My cat ate my cilantro but he never threw up from it. And he left my mint alone (new cat is significantly more a chewer and might be a problem).
I bring in a couple of big pots of geraniums to overwinter, and while they are evidently somewhat toxic to cats, the cats have never bothered them. I think they must taste bad. They would rather focus on the poor spider plant.
Thereās always catnip.
Catgrass and catmint too.
The girls planted out a bunch of seeds yesterday and popped them into their mini mini greenhouse.
Tomatoes, Sunflowers, Corn, Gherkins, Chilli, Tomatillo are all in the dirt. Seems late but to be fair weāve still been having single digit temps and weāre into our second month of Spring.
Thanks gardenchat!
I would definitely do herbs! Mints are great because they are basically impossible to kill in my experience.
Your girls have gotten so big!
Yep, thereās an indoor jasmine! This is the familiar white/pink jasmine youād grow outside. (Different from star jasmine, which is in another genus.) Youāll need a trellis/stake, a lot of sun, and some cooler indoor temps to get your flowers.
You have inspired me, Frecks, one of the things Iām missing most about CA is the jasmine!
It smells so good!
SO FUCKIN GOOD, and no one around here seems to grow it (which I guess makes sense, since it gets cold enough here that I suspect it would normally get killed off over the winter).
My dad brought me some of that from home for my wedding bouquet.
