I don’t know but it is gorgeous. Orange/peach/coral are my absolute favourite rose colours. I’ve killed the few I’ve attempted to grow though.

It’s so nice and it seems healthy after me not doing anything but cutting the obviously dead branches over the past 3 years. But I thought roses needed pruning to stay healthy and I wanted to learn this year.
I deadheaded everything for the first time so 
that’s what it wants

In my limited experience you’re not going to hurt a rose by cutting it. I always make the cuts right above a leaf node that has 5 or 7 leaves and is pointing outward. My roses seem happy with that.

Hi Everyone! I got my summer garden started really late and everything is small and sad. I am going to still try and grow as much as I can but we have a short window and I expect the frost will come quick.
I want to focus on getting a good fall garden in order. What are your favorite fall crops/tips and tricks? I am thinking cauliflower, kale, maybe carrots? When do you start your fall gardens?

Chard and kale, and I would start them soon. I find cauliflower to be way too much trouble for me. I also sow some snap peas in the fall, clearly august, and you can easily do batches of lettuce too.

I transplanted some zinneas yesterday and they were very dramatic and I thought they would all die. They are happy this morning!
Fall garden:
Start seeds this weekend for kale, cauliflower, and broccoli
Buy seeds for peas and spinach and other direct sow options. I might also plant garlic in the bean container once it’s done

I have pulled up 4 green garlics and cut a bunch of garlic scapes for an oregano walnut pesto. Oregano also from the front yard.

Rhododendron blooming:
We’re in the backyard today planting herbs in cloth pots for the deck garden. Found out the lifespan of the cloth pots is about five years. The handles are breaking off. We may use them anyways. We need pots that don’t cook the plant roots. Last year we used thick plastic pots on the deck and the roots cooked in them! Tiny leaves. Killed most of our plants.
We had the cloth pots on the deck originally, but they developed moss on the outside and were looking unsightly. So I moved them down to by the raised beds. They did great there, like they did on the deck…just the moss is an issue. Today we decided to just scrape it off and use them on the deck anyways. We don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on new pots. We aren’t sure what kind to buy that won’t crack in winter and will keep roots cool in summer. So we’re making do another year.
As we work in the yard we’re seeing all kinds of projects we need to work on. But deck garden first. Then raised beds. Then the rest of it.

I think it is a slime mold (possibly related to Fuligo septica (aka Dog Vomit Slime Mold), because it looks like dog vomit 
) The aforementioned is yellow (I don’t know if it is always yellow) but looks very similar. Slime molds are harmless and don’t harm living plants because they feed on decaying material (you find them often on mulch or decaying logs). They often disappear within a few days.

It’s on the mulch and the plant where it lays on the mulch. It really did look like yellow vomit yesterday when it was wet. Today it’s dry. Thanks!

Deck garden herbs planted. We ran out of large saucers on wheels, so I planted what I hope are heat loving plants in the thick plastic pots. They may get transplanted later this summer…
Still have to plant the GreenStalk. It will be beans, borage and nasturtiums.
Have some more plants to put in the raised beds - tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, parsley. As soon as the heat wave is over tomorrow we will have get to preparing those beds.
I emailed a local soil place that sells compost. Asked for a quote for 2 cubic yards. We’ll see what they say. Usually they’re all sold out by this time of year.

I have harvested another 2 tbsp of rhubarb, chopped it up and put it into the freezer until the house is cool enough to bake rhubarb blueberry muffins

It finally cooled off so it’s a garden maintenance day. It’s still humid from the rain but at least I won’t die out there.

The soil place was indeed all sold out of compost. We are left having to buy it by the bagful at the plant nursery. We still haven’t got all the starts in the ground. We had a couple of very hot days, where we couldn’t work outside. And yesterday we had company. Today I am hoping to plant them.

We bought bagged soil and potting soil, which amounted to lots of peat moss. I was not impressed. It was $200.10 CAD, plus a $25 membership that gives us 10% off everything (including the compost and soil). That $200 was with the discount!
Got home and dug it in. No way is it enough compost. Hubby thinks we can get enough by digging in kitchen scraps. Ah…yes, and attract undesirable animals. This is rat, raccoon, skunk country. I’m not impressed by this idea. However, I have no say in it, and the garden is now caged and planted. So hopefully it will be safe from the critters?
I voted for higher sides to the cage. Hubby voted against it. Didn’t want the expense or the work. I’m going to lose parts of my garden to deer again. Oh well. As a good friend laughingly said, “The deer are going to love your midsummer buffet!”.
Maybe if I surround it with pots again it will give them such unsure footing they won’t try for it. And get some bright flagging tape on the top of the wire.
