Another one to definitely harvest is basil if you’ve got it. Most other herbs will be fine with a little frost though.

Oh yeah, even think a cold thought at basil and it gives up. :joy:

Chives and mint will also survive a freeze just fine, in addition to parsley.

I’m so sad to have pulled up all of the tomato plants! Good night garden you were fun for this first year.

Anyone have good green tomato recipes? We have like 50# of them lol

I’m currently making smoked salsa and we will see if it turns out.

Green tomatoes are good in stir fry, and they freeze well.

I made green tomato chutney and it was fantastic.

But also, wrap them in newspaper and set on a tray in the garage and see how many of them ripen.

has anyone in northern areas (I’m outside Vancouver BC, zone 8b i think?) tried starting scabiosa in fall? The only mention of it is on British gardening sites, everything for North America says it can only be planted in fall for southern areas. I would over winter them in the hoop house/greenhouse, which isn’t heated.

I guess there is no harm in trying, since I have seed from this year’s plants!

Zone 8b is a southern zone here in the US, so it seems like it could work ok! I’m here in the much colder zone 5b/6a so no direct experience!

whoa wild, I’ve never really looked into it but we have the same zone as northern Texas?!? I’m going to give it a go!

I’m always amazed at what a single tuber can turn into with some Dahlias.

How’d you get this picture of mr krmit??

Dahlias are stored for the winter. All fingers crossed that they survive the winter! My mom moved so I lost the good spot I had for storage so I have them in our warehouse at work and will just watch the temperature. I think it will be fine.

@madgeylou did you say that Johnnys sometimes has free shipping? I was going to order one pack of seeds and the shipping is $8.50! Maybe it’s only ever on large orders? (They’ve listed the new 2026 seeds now)

they just had it like a month ago! not sure when it will happen again, though.

fwiw i put a bunch of stuff in my johnny’s cart and left — and now they sent me a coupon code for $10 a $50 order. that would just about cover shipping, i think :joy:

But I don’t want $50 of stuff! Ugh. Shipping costs are why I always buy more than I intend to. I will end up getting like 3-4 things soon so that I can justify the shipping.

Are you getting the new Linen Zinnias?

yes! i’m gonna pick up some lisianthus seeds too, though i also just bought like 100 plugs from farmer bailey’s garden club lmao. i mostly just want to try the lisi seeds out. the nice thing about ordering from farmer bailey is that i can get a bunch of different varieties and i’m stoked about that.

there are some cute looking new snaps and pansies at johnny’s too! i have a cart full of stuff obviously :joy: just haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

I just recently bought a bunch of seeds so I don’t need much. I have 4 things in my cart and it’s the same $8.50 shipping as for 1. :grimacing:

Oh no I didn’t need to know that a new zinnia just dropped :see_no_evil:

The pictures are beautiful!

ETA I just looked and it’s out of stock. I ordered at lunchtime because I saw the large size packs were sold out already and I didn’t want to miss out on them. Maybe they’ll have more before spring?
