These past couple of weeks Iā€™ve been reading books about Mary Queen of Scots/Elizabeth 1/Catherine dā€™Medici, and Elizabeth the Winter Queen (granddaughter of Mary Queen of Scots, sister of Charles 1). I now have many more opinions about the monarchy than I ever have before.

Also, I hadnā€™t realized how little they would have needed to fictionalize Reign to keep it interesting for modern audiences. If anything they probably had to tone things down because we couldnā€™t suspend disbelief. (I did not watch Reign, I just know that Megan Follows got to play Catherine)

the author of the first book and the author of the 2nd and 3rd books have very different opinions of Mary and Catherine. Fascinating to read them in such close succession - just random chance.
