Blood root

I’m assuming the patch is comingled with Siberian squill, and I believe blood root hates to have its home disturbed, so I don’t think I should pull out the purples. Better gardeners, I’d appreciate thoughts.

I would cut the blooms from the squill to prevent it from spreading seed. I’ve always wanted but never had bloodroot, so no first hand knowlege about disturbance. I’ve heard it’s fussy though so I bet you’re right.

I got all of my dahlia tubers planted. 34 different varieties. :grimacing: They are probably too close together but I will stake them and tie them up when they get big. I’ve still got 11 growing from seed that will get planted in a few weeks. I had extras from dividing them last fall so I passed them on to a couple of people.

Dad and I planted the rose of sharon I bought yesterday. Can’t wait for it to bloom.

Mine were all sprouted! You just made me look at my weather and there’s no frost predicted thank goodness.

Almost blooming Magnolia tree

I think these are Brown Eyed Susans

Spiderwort with bonus bees (the bees were so happy and busy)

Gardenia on the verge of exploding with flowers soon. I think this is the second spring we’ve had this planted? It did a few flowers last year but I can see so many buds on it (not to mention new leaf and branch growth!) I’m excited to see how it looks in a few weeks.

I’m not a big fan of daylilies, but I’ve got to admit they are like the Energizer Bunny when it comes to propagation.

Here is a row of mature daylilies I spread along the fence of our neighborhood community garden. There are a few cultivars, each from one mother plants. That mother plants have been divided and moved and moved and divided. I’ve got clones of them all over the area. I don’t know the name of the brightest one anymore.

I love daylilies visually, though yeah – they propagate to the point of invasiveness! I do think they’re damn pretty though.

I love daylilies but I’m very picky about what colors I have them in.

Yep. Back when I was buying daylilies 20 years ago I stuck to “hot “colors: red , orange, and gold. And then I stopped collecting them because I got bored with them. I do have a couple of small black ones that are charming.

I had ‘Primal Scream’ just a few years after it was introduced and now you see it everywhere. It is really a handsome DL with great color and performance. That’s Primal Scream at the top of the hill in the first photo, the orange one.

Is it still too early to see much from winter sown jugs? I know that I am impatient! But I assumed I would see a bit of height from things by now and my snapdragons basically just germinated and stopped. This week is in the 60’s, a week from now it is supposed to be consistently in the 70’s so maybe that will do it?

Most of my winter sown stuff is still teeny tiny. I didn’t do any annuals this year, and my perennials usually are growing roots before they start growing the plants. For annuals, I would say they really take off quickly once the weather gets warmer if I remember correctly.

my WS snapdragons were all pretty small. i wonder if the mix i planted them in maybe didnt have enough nutrients?

i carefully up-potted them a few weeks ago and they are all getting much bigger now! what they lacked in size, they made up for in hardiness. i think only 2 out of like 150 seedlings died.

Mine are still literally like just germinated size. What did you do with them after potting them up? Put them back outside or under lights? I don’t really have room under lights, do you think I could pot them up into new soil in new clean milk jugs and put them back outside? I used basic potting soil with no nutrients because I wasn’t sure what to use so I should probably fertilize them.

i put them back outside. i did the same with my very leggy indoor-started seedlings. when i up-potted them, i used a richer compost-based potting soil but i bet fertilizing them would work, too.
