Do y’all throw out or donate (clean, not holey) underwear?
I just splurged on a bunch of new ones and want to do an undies cleanout. But I’m not sure what to do with the ones that are still fine, but just not my style/fit anymore. Throwing them away feels wasteful, but donating feels weird maybe?
Who knows, maybe I should be selling them online to make some money lol
I don’t believe any organization will take underwear donations. Bras will sometimes get picked up on my local Buy Nothing, but bottoms definitely not. I’ve been tossing mine into textile recycling bags like https://www.retoldrecycling.com/.
Our buy nothing group I’ve seen good quality underwear get picked up.
We have people take bras (always) and underwear (sometimes) on Buy Nothing. Otherwise any charities and stuff throw them out.
5 bookshelves is how many we have, and it is on the cusp of too few.
I kept my calculus textbook because I was so proud of passing that course. It’s one of the few things I worked at (vs the usual read thing → write thing or do assignment). And I think I kept the sociology textbook I helped my prof with. Oh, and my Chinese history books because they fit in with my non textbook Chinese history.
Libraries/Friends of the Library generally do not take old textbooks, though ofc rules may vary. In general, old textbooks – especially for things like bio – generally just need to be trashed.
Yeah I think it’s if they’re more than 2 editions further on they’re useless, right? And it’s only super niche, rarely re-released ones that are useful after a few years?
Yep. There are certain fields or certain texts that retain value, but once it’s not the current edition it’s trash for most textbooks.
(Note that this is for the genre that is textbooks, not every text used for a class,. Maybe obvious but that word can get used fast n loose lol.)
I think my crystallography textbook would still be useful to the right person, but my gen chem is probably trash.
I kept it this long because I thought it could explain the concept of pH when I forget wtf is actually happening with the ions but turns out it’s too vague to even help with that.
True story: I mainly still have the textbooks we do to make sure there’s plenty of weight on the very bottom and back of our bookshelf as insurance for tip overs (it’s anchored, but still, I like to stack the odds in our favor)
Also our Biochem books were VERY useful in the front of Latte’s push car when she was learning to walk as a counter weight 
For the first time you’re making me regret dropping out of college and never looking back, because I could really use a doorstop. Getting my bike inside my new place is a pain in the ass.

I have 16+ bookcases, so see, it’s not so bad! My cases all have at least 2 shelves, but more usually 4…
Yesterday I cleaned off my desk. Today I went thru the 2 cake tins that live under the sideboard in the dining room. New batch o stuff for the antique booth in the van.
Yep! As a 60+ woman at the time I really didnt want to be preached at by a 17 yo. Especially as my mess is tied to the PTSD and of course that makes it complicated🤪
He is either a hoarder or has hoarding tendencies. The way I kept my last husband’s junk under control was to limit it to his office, garage, shed and partial dirt basement. Occasionally I could get him to clean out some stuff and throw things away. I would think he was getting better but then he would come home with more stuff he got for free.
They say never to throw away a person’s stuff but honestly it was the only way to be able to move in those spaces. So when he went out of town a bunch of the stuff would get thrown out and he never noticed. He would save mail forever, napkins, etc. He was always going to fix broken stuff but never did.
I rented a truck and helper and took 4 truckloads to the dump from his giant shed and as long as I left it super messy he had no clue. Everything is important to hoarders and they can’t distinguish between garbage and a heirloom. Ironically he hated that his mom was a hoarder and he became just like her.
I am setting some decluttering goals. I have a bedroom that is mostly storage, a ‘spare’ Class A that I’m using as storage, and 10x20’ storage unit, and an 6’x8’ storage shed down in my winter spot. I move to my winter spot in a couple of weeks. In the next 2 years I want to pare down to a single 10’x10’ storage unit and what fits into my RV, whichever size it is at any give time. To explain that, I tend to buy older RV’s to live in and then cycle them every 5 or so years. At least that is what has happened.
Goal in the next 2 weeks: declutter my living space so I can drive the motorhome down with no panic the night before to get stuff stashed so it doesn’t rattle around as I’m going down the road. Extra points for doing some clearing out of the storage motorhome.
Goal for winter: clear out the shed in the winter RV spot and sell it when I leave in April. Also have the storage RV cleared out and ready to sell or live in in the summers.
Background: I switched RV’s last summer when one last (small) thing broke on the original older Class A and stumbled into my current motorhome within an hour. Decided that it was cheaper to keep the original one than try to see it and buy a cargo trailer to use for storage. Now I’m planning on leaving the one I’m living in down in the winter area year round and either sell the storage one and buy something smaller I can travel in easily during the summer, or move it from the storage lot to the summer space and live in it in the summer. Tossing it to the Universe to make that decision. I need to clear it out in either case.
