Decluttering discussion thread: share your wins, ask for advice, inspire each other!

Decluttered the pantry! There was some candy in there that was leftover from when I was pregnant. Considering that I now have a child who walks, talks, and drinks out of cups (none well) it is time to GO. It probably wasn’t bad but if we haven’t eaten it by now, it’s not getting eaten.

I made a list of the ingredient-y stuff like lentils and rice papers, so that I can put it into Chat GPT when it’s time to meal plan.

Finished one fancy face cream a friend gifted me, and a hotel moisturizer. I have decided another of the hotel minis can be gifted as part of a themed set of things for my family holiday swap.

I am almost done the 400ml container of shea butter from body shop.

my skin gets so dry in the winter and then I’ll be in a store and think I need to buy more creams, but really what I need to do is actually apply the creams and moisturizers I already own regularly to help prevent greater problems by giving a protective barrier first.

I listed a pair of fancy shoes, but no takers, so I need to decide at what price I am ok with them going.

Woah…

Today is a dump day. And, as per usual these days, I went looking for a piece or two of clothing or cloth to put into the SA clothing donation bin.

I can’t find any.

That of course does NOT mean that there’s not 100s of pieces of clothes, linens, yardage to donate… but it does mean that I have after. months of effort have culled all the easy pickin’s.

GO ME!!!

Guys i went hard. I moved 2 book shelves around our house and gave away a 4x4 cube shelf. Also gave away 12 books, a phone + watch charger, and 6 packaged kids toys that were either duplicates or things I refuse to remind my daughter she got for her bday :joy: and enough time has passed I know she doesn’t remember them. 3 went to a speech therapist and the rest will be Christmas gifts for other people. And then I had a box full of recycling and trash (old sticker books, cardboard sleeves from multi book packs, so on) and dealt with all of that, too.

Admittedly we are adding a like 97” tall, 10’ long wall playground unit thing but. At least that anchors to the wall and will get used  but mass wise probably still a net increase to our house.

I have seven lids and none of them fit this box. The hazards of hand me down storage bins.

Yesterday I cashed out some old coins and a few bills - $320! Yippee.
Also sold my mom’s silver plated flatware @$1/pound. Not impressive payout ($4.50]. It’s possible I should have done some online search for potential value, but I was on a roll and it’s gone now and I feel better.

I went to a craft supplies exchange and left with less than I brought! I only brought home with me 3 embroidery hoops and a thread organizer that I will use to organize my screws and nuts and bolts and things in the tool cabinet. I unloaded some scrapbook paper and SO MUCH YARN.

I also dropped off dozens of old nail polishes to a lady who wanted some for her kids to play with.

Today I will take the remains of the leather off a coach I skinned and some 4 inch foam to another friend for use in her LARP group.

I didn’t think to take before/after pictures, but we cleared out our garage today. We got rid of enough stuff that we were able to get rid of an entire shelving unit from the garage. We also got rid of a bunch of kids toys including an electric scooter! Lots more to get rid of out there, but the obvious stuff is gone! We also took a couple of containers to our hazardous waste disposal area.

I have now cleaned 1/2 the closet doors. NOT insignificant, there’s 4 louvered panels there and they collect dust in quantity! A piece of cardboard and other tools were used to get the dust out of the corners and it took me a quite a while!

Having done “real” clean up for the window project, I’ve discovered that I like it. So, I’ve been doing some, every day. The latest project being the 8 louvered panels of the closet doors. Still have 4 to go, but my whole attitude has shifted here. I’ve always hated cleaning, because it just was mostly moving things from one place to another? I guess we’ve finally culled enough stuff that there are clear patches and I can see the cleaned floor/doors, etc. and that is egging me on. Also, the crystal clear new windows help. Seems a shame to have that much clear, beautiful light come into a cluttered and dusty room, right?

Received a generic gift last week at scouts, which I accepted with all due appreciation.

Then gave to Chuck yesterday as she needs a gift to take for her work white-elephant.

Generic gifts can go in an endless loop. I think I need to buy one this year

Christmas mug filled with chocolate.

We purged all the extra mugs before the move.

I have lots of chocolate.

It was in lovely cellophane wrapping, so - ready to go on to the next sucker

We’re emptying and sorting the gift stash tonight. I don’t think I have one but maybe. If not, I need to remember anytime I am in a store. @Star I love that the circles don’t overlap so no rewrapping.

We are decluttering 3/4 of the balance beam set and 1/2 the duplo this weekend as a major regift.
