Yes. Esecially down stream effects- you’re more likely to use it as a desk and not pile things, probably. With visually clear spaces, you’re more likely to keep them that way. So on. I personally think optimizing your furniture to your space can be an important part of the decluttering experience.
Agreed, especially as we just did this - bought a cabinet to place in a spot that kept becoming a junk pile. It made me throw out all the crap we didn’t need, and now everything there has a home so nothing stray gets placed there.
I’m SO close to being able to get rid of a black IKEA piece from our loungeroom! Just need to find a home for our dress-ups and shuffle some books around!
I love my enabler friends
I cleaned out one of those annoying miscellaneous drawers that gets used as a dumping ground. I think that there’s only one of those left. And the basket on my desk looks like a disaster but is pretty up to date. It just needs to be better hidden.
Another goal is figuring out how to hide some business paperwork that should be kept for ten years. Maybe I go on a scanning binge? It’s so funny how hard it is to strike a good bslance… Like my parents talk about their public housing landlord corporation 35 years ago that just didn’t save anything (bad) and I’ve worked at companies that saved everything and had paper archive space bigger than their work space (also bad). Part of me wants to move internationally and “have to” part with 90% of my belongings and blame it on the move. Part of me is so ridiculously grateful that I’ve curated a home of things I love.
It’s my dream to have my home be like this. Rather than a random assortment of mostly things we got for free…
I decluttered that bottle of wine today.
Soooo close to getting rid of the black IKEA piece and replacing with an armchair. (We already have the armchair and it’s sitting awkwardly in front of the tv cabinet, off stage left.
Decluttering fabric by making an extremely easy gathered skirt.
I got rid of
An air purifier
À giant desk
Plant pots a few days ago
A printer
I need help with the desk/computer situation.
My desktop is old and showing her age. And I don’t like her cluttering the place up. I could buy her a fancy corner desk and the desk would be pretty, and maybe the resentment would be soothed but for how long? How well does it fit with me plus a cat plus a baby in a Jr 1 bed apartment?
Or. I buy a shiny new Chromebook and a used DVD player… And then I don’t have a giant computer, but I can still probably do everything I do (spreadsheets, docs, Web based applications, Netflix , youtube). I’d still have my mouse and keyboard.
Can I declutter a whole computer? Is it allowed? I’d post it on Kijiji or mmm or something. Maybe I’ll see right now if a friend wants it
You can do whatever works for you! We give you permission!
I don’t know what the right answer is, but I’m offering a fist bump of solidarity on hating having an ugly desktop computer in your loungeroom. I lived with that for years and hated it.
We are decluttering 2 desktops, 2 laptops, assorted mobile phones and a tablet sometime over the next couple of months. It’s totally allowed. We’re going down to sharing 1 desktop and 1 laptop and I am sooooo excited.
And I can just buy a new thing even though the old thing isn’t worn out beyond repair? This might be those money scripts I hear of
Yes, yes you can. I have the same script, it is hard to get over it. Imagine how happy some one else will be to have a thing they need, which is also a thing that isn’t working well for YOU right now! You do not have enough space or spoons to own stuff that is not exactly right for you (or close enough).
If you do that you can potentially sell it for money instead of having to trash it.
Maybe, just maybe, I achieve my deepest desire of foisting awful computers onto others and don’t own any. But maybe the sole prop business buys a Chromebook because otherwise I can’t do the means of production? And I the human can just own my phone and ebook reader
I have cleaned out my spare room so its now basically empty. I should have taken before and aftr pics.
Posted more clothes on poshmark! Nothing has sold yet, but at least it’s on the way to being out of my house.
Rehomed my old desk! Returned to my brother who I got it from. Was worried it would require a truck to get back, but it just baaaaaarely fit in our car. So we were able to get it back today!
A friend hosted a clothes and household goods swap. I came home with less than I left with.
I need to do a decluttering. But here’s a “keeping stuff for a while” win. I now fit back into a bunch of clothes that I had “outgrown” a few years back. Hooray not having to shop!
I think this weekend I’ll go through my homebrewing stuff and throw out any ingredients that are too old and figure out how to use up anything that is still usable.
