Create-Your-Own Adventure November Challenge: Stickers Deadline!

NaNo continues to go very well even though I kept taking breaks to check Twitter. Because today it was good news.

I did very well this week on my goals. I did half of a yoga video before baby E put an end to it, so that counts right?!

First week checkin, mostly so far so good.

  • First gift completed, working on plans for what comes next since my lack-of-travel for the holidays is pretty well confirmed so it all has to be electronic or easily shippable
  • Good start on one of my projects (old dollhouse I picked up somewhere) to get fixed up and resold for the holidays
  • $25 spent on groceriesā€¦trying to keep groceries very low, but while Iā€™ve got plenty of dry goods/pantry staples I know a lack of fresh fruit/veg will get to me so Iā€™m not pushing it too far
  • $5 spent on a book. Impulse purchase, shouldnā€™t have done it, have a stack of books queued up from the library to avoid doing this again
  • $40 to charity/non-501c3 (categorization matters for match tracking purposes), not cutting this budget so thatā€™s fine

Week one check in - no surprise, that because I have been thinking about this I have been doing it.

Exercise - went swimming 3 times, and yoga once. Walked more as well, especially because of the nicer weather. I dread the cool off later this week. Anyways, 59,860 steps for the week, it that is an improvement from the previous week by almost 30,000 steps.

House stuff - bookcase painting completed on Monday, and started putting things back, but now Iā€™m sorting out what I want to keep versus not. Have also been researching wall paper and rugs, and pulled the trigger yesterday and purchased a new area rug. Having a meeting today about the new dining room puzzle table, so excited to get that done! I have 10 puzzles waiting.

Week 2 goals will be to get the bookcase complete and items out of the house, start taping some trim for paint, as well as continue walking and do all exercise bookings. I have 4 swims and 2 yoga sessions booked.

This is what has been happening in my YNAB journey - Negative budgeted numbers! It was very confusing to me.

Negative Budgeted in YNAB

I saved money in October for work clothes. Then my November budget kicked in and it said I had a negative amount budgeted, AND my saved goal was $0 and yellow. Iā€™m still trying to understand why itā€™s saying Iā€™m not fully funded if I was fully funded in October.

Week 1

Exercise: Walked 3 times for a little over an hour each time, then did yoga 2 days for 30 minutes each. Not quite 5 hours total, but this week had election stress plus period fatigue so Iā€™ll be kind to myself and plan to do better next week.
Duolingo: managed 30 minutes every day this week!

It seems I didnā€™t join this thread, even though I intended to. In August and September I had movement goals, which were key to keeping me (slightly) active. I didnā€™t join the October thread, and I also was a lazy bum for the whole month. Seeing strong correlation between having accountability (even just to the interwebs) and actually doing the thing, I am back this month with what has become my standard goal:

  • 300 minutes (stretch goal 360 minutes) of intentional movement each week

This usually takes the form of walking, biking, or kayaking. My gym just reopened their pool, so Iā€™m considering adding swimming back in. And itā€™s been months now since I practiced yoga, which my body desperately needs.

Iā€™ll post again when I add up my activity for week 1.

Week 1 update:

  1. outside every day: beautiful weather has made this easy. Socially distanced outdoor visits happened several times this weekend. Letā€™s see how I do when the weather does its winter thing.
  2. financial review/do with hubs: I made a spreadsheet listing financial activities/bills with attributes of calendar month, cadence, funding source, manual/automated, and done. Itā€™s not a budget or a forecast, so there are no dollar amounts.
I shared an HSA account update with hubs. He forgets about it since itā€™s in my name and the statements go to my email only. I took a screenshot of our investments and cash position and shared it with him. Itā€™s now his to do whether to leave things as-is or to make changes.
I completed annual benefits enrollment today. Iā€™ll probably report more on this next week, since today is part of week two.
3). I did some minor cleanup of the project materials for the baseboard install. I have zero regrets about lack of meaningful progress on this inside project given the absolutely wonderful weather we are having.

Forgot to update Friday, Iā€™ve been out for a walk and sometimes an exercise class each day this week. Today is looking questionable due to rain but Iā€™ll either catch a break in rain or so something inside. Saw two friends last week to keep the social aspect up. Week one: success!

Iā€™m calling week 1 a success. I did get outside for a walk one day, which is more times than the week before and while still anxious about the election aftermath, itā€™s not nearly has bad as I thought it would be.

-I have done no Christmas shopping yet. This one is not looking very likely. But I did get some things together for nephewā€™s birthday which Iā€™m very excited about, so there is a tiny bit of sort of progress.
-I did some decluttering and some box packing. This is not happening at a fast pace, but it is happening.
-I keep looking at rental houses but I really really want my sisterā€™s tenant to move out so we can move in. Can everyone please just send me all your positive thoughts and good vibes for this one to happen?

Reasons this happens to me:

  • I have a scheduled transaction in the category > the amount saved
  • I overspent in a category the previous month (look for ā€œredā€ in any categories in October)
  • All my auto-transactions were > the amount available to budget

Is the number at the top red (to be budgeted) or in the category?
