Covid-19 discussion

Yeah, stores have to pay it to the… county, I think? The stores don’t keep it.
ETA: no, wait, duh, it’s the city. Because I work just outside the city and they don’t charge. Duh, brain fart.

We have a lot of ziplocs, used and otherwise, so we’re making do with those regardless of what they originally contained, I mean, if there’s poo going into it who cares if it originally housed a cut up onion or frozen bananas? I’ll try and remember to grab extra produce bags next time we shop. Usually I get around the shortage of bags by running errands near work since they are free.

Nearby state is now enforced their “For the love of god, stay the eff home” laws. Curious to see if my wife’s cousin continues to flaunt that in order to get rid of her kid and leave him at her parents house in our state. I’m pretty sure she’d rather do jail time than have to see her kid.

Is watching that going to make me sad/frustrated with people in general?

Whole Foods workers are planning a “sick out” tomorrow, on March 31, to protest their working conditions.

Visualization of # of cases by country over time, US looks like a late-breaking horse in a race.

I’m really glad workers are using this opening to their advantage, they should absolutely campaign for higher wages and hazard pay, plus sick leave, etc.

So, I didn’t want the 13 minute video about how to sterilize your groceries. Other sources say that “Detectable” isn’t the same as “enough to infect you” and that to be infected from something another person had touched, they would probably have to have sneezed on their hands or right on the item very shortly before you handled it, and then you would have had to touch your face without watching your hands.

Am I being too blase if I don’t sterilize my groceries?

We tried to get takeout Friday from our favorite local place but it may have closed down! I hope it is just that they can’t pay staff and buy food right now but will reopen. No sign on the door or anything.

I personally am not sanitizing groceries.

For my own mental health, I’m not sterilizing my groceries or mail. I just can’t push myself that far.

I am also not sanitizing groceries. I wash my hands/wipe down whatever I touched in my car and change my clothes when I get home, and that’s that. I just don’t have the mental energy to go through sanitizing food, and that is the level of risk I am willing to take for my mental health.

I honestly don’t know how much longer I can keep doing it, it’s making me feel insane and paranoid and worried about what if I missed a spot? (Especially since there are still no cleaners or wipes to be had in stores so I am improvising with what we’ve got.)

Going forward, I’m planning on letting nonperishables sit in the basement for the 1-3 days it takes for the virus to die off. The cat food order came today and that’s what I did with that. It’s all wet food and litter so that’ll be harder for the basement mice to chew through. As far as the stuff that needs to be fridged/frozen immediately… I just don’t know.

I’m not: sterilizing groceries, wearing gloves, a mask, or washing my clothes immediately after coming inside. I am: sanitizing my hands immediately after leaving the store, trying not to touch door handles if possible, washing my hands before and after putting away groceries, wiping my phone and keys down with alcohol wipes after coming back.

It sounds like the video about sanitizing groceries comes from an MD who is not an epidemiologist or food sanitation expert. Things I’ve seen coming out from food sanitation experts suggests that sanitizing groceries is not necessary – the biggest thing to do is just to wash your hands frequently, including after you come in from a grocery trip, and if you’re worried wash your hands after handling e.g. new cans of beans or whatever for a day or two.

Welp, my friend (twinfriend) does have it. On the upside we haven’t seen each other in about a month and she’s such a complete badass she’s taking it in stride. Her words were “it’s like, add it to my fucking tab”, haha, so…yeah! She’s still at home which is good, I’m hoping she gets to stay there <3 and feeling so thankful to be in my warm little homey bubble right now too.

Also my cat just walked up to me, smelled my elbow really intensely, and then walked away looking back at me very suspiciously so…IDK what that’s about.

I don’t have wipes of any sort. I also don’t have any immediate plans to go to a store, and I’m not sure if wipes are in stock anywhere near me. Are there household cleaners I could use to clean my phone?

I feel that just we were starting to make gains (even very tiny ones) regarding single use anything it has now been completely tossed aside, and will take forever for some people to start using reusable anything.
