Are they including the folks who were vaccinated as part of that 60% who have antibodies?
I donāt think so, not based on that article anyway. Maybe someone can hunt down the briefing?
They looked for presence of anti-nucleocapsid (anti-N) antibodies, which is ONLY in people with previous exposure to the virus. Vaccination results in anti-spike antibodies only.
Thanks for the info!
Thank you for confirming!
Itās finally happening!!!
Yes, but with so many frustrating caveats. Iām planning to email my senator and Congress person today and will post my message to them once I do so in case anyone else is willing to do the same.
For sure, thatās very frustrating. I feel like they favor Pfizer and are dragging their feet on this. Like, oh, no rush. Donāt mind that wave thatās ramping up with my baby still unprotected.
Thanks for doing that! Iāve been doing some of that, too. I think theyāre listening.
Thanks - and please post if youāre able - Iād like to do the same and appreciate your effort in drafting up a message
Iāll believe it when I see it at this point, tbh.
@AnneBeddingfeld hereās what Iāve got. It would probably be more coherent if my toddler was sleeping through the night these days
Anyone is welcome to use this text to modify or send as-is to their congress people and senators.
Letter to senators
I am asking you to advocate for a faster approval timeline for the Moderna vaccine for children under 6.
The goal for an adult vaccine was never to prevent symptomatic infections, it was to prevent or reduce severe disease which it has done, even against omicron. Thatās all we are asking for our children, and Modernaās data shows the same antibody response as adults which means itās highly likely that it provides the same protection against severe disease.
As the LA times recently reported, hospitalizations increased drastically in kids under 6 with the recent Omicron wave. (Hospitalizations skyrocket in kids too young for COVID shots)
The FDA is asking me to wait for another dangerous wave before fast-tracking an authorization. This puts my daughter at risk, when getting vaccinated now is what will protect her during the next wave.
Itās upsetting and doesnāt make sense to me (or any other parents I know) that the FDA is pushing off a decision on the Moderna vaccine for children under six until June because āit could be confusing to parentsā
We are all living through the third year of a pandemic with many different vaccine choices that have been approved for adults. If anything, we are all more equipped now than ever to understand the benefits and tradeoffs of the vaccine for our children. Please help us convince the white house and the FDA that this choice should belong in the hands of patients, their parents, and their doctors and that the Moderna review should happen as soon as possible (in May). Why arenāt we treating our youngest citizens with the same amount of respect and concern that we have afforded every other age group?
Sincerely,
XX, Parent of an amazing 18-month old
Thanks for this, Iāll be editing and using for my representatives. We havenāt heard a damn thing about Australia even considering vaccination for children under 5.
This is really good! Thank you for sharing, I only edited it a little for my use!
ZOMG, I just did another rapid test for daycare next week and itās STILL POSITIVE. And now her brother is positive too Another week with kids at home.
On the very bright side, I have sick time I can take at work that doesnāt cut into my PTO.
Query: is the āpandemicā phase over and now we just have another shitty virus?
Thatās what all the politicians want us to think, but not sure if scientists would agree.
In the US Dr Fauci says we are done with the acute pandemic phase. What that means I dont think anyone knows yet. There really is no way that COVID is going to just go away. Right now at least where I live the hospitals are not close to capacity so Iām ok with just living my life.
Edit to add a source
I havenāt seen an article about it in a month, but last discussion I heard was basically that itās now going to be endemic but something something still pandemic and the final date decision will be made in the future about history?
The politicians have decided so.
But also - looking at hospital capacity, treatment availability, vaccine availabilityā¦it looks pretty dang good? Like we are out of the true uncontrolled spread, dire consequences and into more of a medium risk territory.
Cases are slowly ticking up here again and my family is back to avoiding maskless indoor things. Iām sure weāll have another bump in winter because seasonality. I want there to be broader access to treatment and vaccines for littles. But I am actually starting to believe that weāre moving out of the true emergency pandemic phase.
