Covid-19 discussion

Update: this person began having symptoms a week and a half ago. So Greyman almost certainly had exposure.

Why did this asshole not tell anyone when he started feeling sick?? :rage:

Some religiously affiliated grade school out in the suburbs was defying the school closure order on grounds of “religious freedom.” FFS. Supposedly they are complying as of today though.
ETA: apparently they sent the cops there today to force them to comply except they’d already closed.

I think Walmart and giant tiger will stay open as long as they can keep the clothes stocked we’ll be okay. Or maybe people will sell on kijiji if it goes long enough. But if once upon a child does curbside that’d be even better. I should have around 8 weeks, and by then I won’t be the only one

If not let me know please. I have access to an obscene amount of donated baby clothes that currently can’t go where intended, and will happily ship your way.

You are ridiculously sweet. Thank you. I will let you know what happens.

H just got his new work assignment since they’re basically reassigning all the healthcare workers and he’s going to be taking temperatures at one of the booths in the hospitals. No idea if he will get PPE, no idea on really anything. Fuck

I don’t know if threadup exists in Canada, but thredup is an online thrift store that lets you scroll/shop from your house and has baby clothes. And it’s also pretty much normal thrift store pricing, at least for adult stuff.

We just got the email for voluntary recruitment of health care providers. Admin or temperature taking is the kind of thing I’d be assigned too if I was going to participate. I definitely cried reading the official page. The way its set up and the redistribution and data collection paves the way for if it becomes mandatory.

I’m not going in at this stage of mat leave. But if we need health care workers still in the late fall or early next winter…I think that I would.

They are asking about preferences for different care settings too. Probably so they can pull nurses out from settings like long term care and admin and reassign to the front lines. FUCK.

I’m thrilled we’re taking it seriously. But FUCK

Yeah he basically got asked preferences and was told he can take PTO or unpaid leave. He told them he will go wherever they need him. With more details it looks like he will be taking temps at a booth to the entrance to the cancer ward, and the only people there will be visitors to patients in the ward who have been phone screened. And thankfully it’s just two days a week (Saturday and Sunday apparently but what are weekends anymore) and the rest of his time he’ll work from home. So I’m less panicked than I was when he only said “in a booth at the hospital”

Though I do still want to go scream myself hoarse at all the idiots not taking this seriously

Well, politicians are finding ways to reduce reproductive rights using the pandemic. Like many other things, I worry rolling back such restrictions may become impossible when this is over.
17%20PM

This is especially concerning for folks that need abortions when traveling out of state is almost impossible due to flights being reduced to 90% of previous capacity and rest stops being shut, many long-distance buses being closed. We’re going to probably see some people attempt and fail to do it themselves, and hurt themselves.

I wonder though if non-surgical abortions (which are most procedures) will be included in that.

My co-worker, who’s been to the doctor last week and assured that she only has bronchitis, is now much worse and running a fever. They won’t test her.

My ex-co-worker who was among those laid off just lost her mom - not to coronavirus, her mom was already sick and had really bad dementia and was in her 90s. But still, what a horrible time for this. The family is Jewish and can’t sit shiva.

This all totally sucks.

This has occurred to me too, it’s scary.
I’m also assuming that some kind of further abortion restriction is going to be somehow tacked onto Congress’s relief bill, with the R’s refusing to pass it unless the D’s agree.

Hugs to everyone who’s having this come very close.

Please let us know how those of us here can help if it’s needed. You know everyone here will ship lentils or send cash or make you baby clothes, whatever it is.

That’s shitty. People lost lives fighting for those rights and now when it’s needed more than ever, they find a way to flip it under a cart.

well, my first friends in my own city probably have it. One is immunosuppressed and the other in her 50s and have very clear symptoms, but neither are allowed to get tested.

Time to tell everyone you know about Plan C.

https://plancpills.org/

Of course this doesn’t solve the problem or help folks who need a surgical abortion, but it does help with some of the accessibility.

I also just fucking love how they insist on calling pregnant individuals seeking abortions “mother.”

ETA: If you ever need someone to rage or seethe with you over abortion access, I’m your girl! This shit makes me whip around so fast to act/react.

CW shit

Yes. Also makes me scared for those who need assistance with a miscarriage like I did, because they like to push this shit as far as possible.

WI governor is going to use the same language tomorrow. It’s “less scary” sounding.

They need this to be scary sounding.

Oregonians and Floridians flocking to the beaches over the weekend?

People could use a little scaring.

Look at New York’s numbers.
