Covid-19 discussion

I cannot conceive of the circumstances in which a triscuit would be something I wanted THAT badly!
The situation in question was at least fancy cheese.

Yeah, this was a situation of unmasked people grabbing at samples of fancy cheese with their grabby little hands. Which, honestly, in cold/flu season in the past I would not have participated in either; I rarely got colds before but when I did, it was usually because I ate office communal food and later heard some participant announce “OMG, I am sooooo sick.”

In Western Australia the vaccine mandate for certain industries comes into affect in a week’s time.

My job is affected and I think I will have to terminate the employment of about 3-7 team members (team of 50) though at the moment 17 haven’t given me proof of vaccination.

My work is expecting issues and so next week I have to go to the airport (we fly to work on company charter planes) from 4am - 4pm to stop people getting on the plane and deal with that frustration and anger. Not looking forward to it

The Denver metro area is bringing back the internal mask mandate starting tomorrow! We no longer have enough staff to have a person stationed at the entrance checking for them, so… should be interesting to enforce.

I thought this would mean that we would have to wear masks in the staff areas again, but apparently we don’t–we are covered by a vaccine mandate so don’t have to mask. We do almost always mask in the staff areas except for eating and drinking, but it’s nice not to have to wear one when I’m going down the stairs to go out–if I’m going for a walk I leave it behind and if I am leaving for the day I like to pack it in my back before I go downstairs.

Madison has renewed its mask mandate until January, which is excellent news.

You have my sympathies. That sounds like it’s going to be rough.

Hopefully it will be ok, I am jusy hoping that those that aren’t vaccinated just won’t bother turning up and will have started their hunt for a new job.

I’m really, really hoping you don’t get anyone making a fuss.

I’ve been called a human right violating tyrant this week. But I am hoping the non vaccinated just won’t turn up to the airport.

Well you’re my favorite tyrant of all time, in that case.:heart::heart:

Word of the mask mandate has clearly not reached this Discount Tire. Going to be a long day of enforcement at the library. Sigh.

I was very happy to see the mask mandates to back into effect for Denver and most of the surrounding counties. It does say that you have to enforce masks or check vaccine status and anyone who shows they are vaccinated doesn’t have to wear a mask. Which is ok by me. They are enforcing it at judo too, which makes me SO HAPPY.

I’m sorry the library doesn’t have the staff to enforce things, and I really hope that you don’t have to deal with too many unruly people because of it!

I realize it is probably premature to freak out about this new variant, but I feel like we’re in a Battlestar Galactica situation. “All of this has happened before, all of this will happen again.” FFS. I’m tired.

So much anxiety about this. An anti Covid vax loved one may be getting admitted to the hospital tonight in West Michigan for a non-Covid issue. However I read a national news article this morning about the hospitals where she lives are already at capacity.

Wondering if this could make any difference in her opinion on getting vaccinated?

Well, one good piece of anecdata. My brother never caught covid from his wife.

He says they sort of separated and that he moved his stuff to the guest bathroom, etc., but they didn’t mask or anything. His prior covid case + the vaccine was enough protection to keep him getting reinfected after basically hotboxing covid in his home for 10 days. (He went ahead with his scheduled booster a few days after she got sick, but I don’t think it would have kicked in soon enough to be a factor.) Hopefully the vaccine + booster will do the same thing for others.

It has been soooo nice to have the holidays without restrictions. Everyone else in my family is vaccinated and boosted, so her being in her post-covid immunity window for Thanksgiving and Christmas is a game changer. Now we feel comfortable having meals inside together after rapid tests. She wasn’t going to be allowed to come to dinner before. Too bad I bet she’s really not going to get vaccinated now, so things will be a pain again once her 90 days are up.

I feel like they should be getting DNA from people like your brother.

They are taking DNA from my (double vaxxed) hospitalized aunt, but so far not from my (double vaxxed) recovered at home grandad.

Also aunt is back on dialysis, which I assume means her new kidney is a no go, but it wasn’t really doing it’s best job before. She’s been getting increased vent breaks and her eyes opened! The longer she’s stableish the higher her chances of healing and becoming a miracle. I need to call the nurse soon and get an update on her heart. It was failing but maybe it’s chronic and not acute? She is still under a DNR (doctor’s choice where she lives), so I’m quite interested in if that gets lifted etc.

For anyone with an inclination to get into the biology details. This researcher goes into a lot more discussion about the new variant than the popular press. He’s slightly optimistic about the variant but also links to another researcher’s thread who is less so. (These are people who I definitely trust to know what they’re talking about as they are actually doing the science on it)

Ultimately no one can really know what’s going to happen. In glad we’ve been doing a slightly less restrictive holiday with our fully boosted pod on case we have to go back into more of a lockdown mentality again in the future.
