Covid-19 discussion

The county I work in just announced a mask mandate for schools. My social media is pretty universally relieved, so I made the mistake of reading some of the comments. That was a mistake. Never read the comments.

Though I did enjoy the “WHAT OUR SCHOOLS IN (city) USE TO BE NOW THERE SHIT. BECAUSE OF U DUMB DEMASHITS” comment. Very convincing.

One of the two funeral homes in the town south of us has an electronic sign rather than one of the older style with plastic letters. Came through town today, and they have reduced their font size to squeeze five names on there. Most I’ve ever seen in the decade or so since they got the sign was two at once.

Covid creates higher risk of blood clots than covid vaccine does.

(Note that it also said Pfizer has an increased risk of blood clots over general population.)

Question! I have some of the less common symptoms, and I’m not sure if it’s worth isolating and getting tested.

Details

Symptoms are cramps/nausea and fatigue. I haven’t been sleeping great, but the tiredness is more extreme than usual. No known covid exposure, always masked when going in grocery stores. Not my period.

CDC Symptom Checker said it’s unlikely, since I’m vaccinated, but just in case, stay home and get tested.

Possible other causes: coffee? Although I haven’t been drinking a lot. And stopping and restarting Zoloft after a few days. Both of these symptoms could be caused by discontinuation syndrome, as could the insomnia.

htbf and I are supposed to attend an outdoor movie with some friends tonight and go for a bike ride with a few other people tomorrow. I feel like it’s proobably the drugs, and do I really want to cancel my only social activities for the week, which are outdoors anyway, but do I go extra-cautious?

Not a doctor but starting Zoloft gave me terrible GI symptoms.

I would be cautious too though.

So. Previously, I would have said “nah!” but…

My DD’s co-worker and good friend has been sick for a couple of days with what she thought was some sort of tummy bug. No fever, no cough.

But it didn’t clear up and she got tested yesterday, and it’s Covid. She’s fully vaccinated, as is her dh and teenager, but not her 5yo. They are pretty careful, too, and her work requires vaccination to be on campus.

So, who knows where she got it? We’re kind of freaked out. Her little boy was supposed to start kindergarten this week, too.

Anyone have thoughts on WaPos article on the CDC sim?

I don’t pay for WaPo so I don’t know what it is!

I couldn’t find it.

I can paste later

Ohhh, I did see that but had skipped over the projection. Yikes. My kids’ school requires masks for everyone and also vaccination for staff. Not sure what I would do if they didn’t.

:frowning: but it only reduces risk for kids in my son’s age group to 50% in 3 months. This really sucks. Fuck delta.

Covid negative.

It doesn’t seem to account for whether teachers are vaccinated?

As some of you might know, my uncle has heritable ALS. I’m not at risk for it, as he’s my uncle by marriage. His sister presented with ALS this year and was declining quickly compared to him (he’s still able to travel/be almost completely independent, which is frankly bananas at this rate compared to the usual trend line. He can be difficult to understand because of his speech and he has spasticity in some of his limbs that makes us more nervous than it makes him, lol, but he’s fucking rocking it).

But I’m posting this on the COVID thread.

His sister died last week.
She and her entire family don’t believe in the vaccine.

Know what kills someone with compromised lung power real quick?
COVID. Which she got.

:frowning:

My uncle attended her funeral by the door with his N95 on.

I didn’t know her very much, it’s just… frustrating. :frowning: And I’m sad for him.

Yeah, still, second-hand sad.

And… this case has resulted in much of the San Francisco Dept. of Public Health having to quarantine. Note that we are not in San Francisco….

I’m sorry, Oro.
