I swung very hard “p-town is terrifying, back to isolation!” and then back to “as a healthy vaxxed adult my risk level is like a medium flu” so my overall answer is who tf knows.
I’m still masking in indoor public spaces where vax status is unknown and avoiding crowded indoor spaces (I’ve been to the movies but there were 10-15 other people there).
That’s nice that schools are allowed to decide if kids in their schools can wear masks.
Our governor won’t allow that. Teachers are not even allowed to remind students whose parents have said they should wear masks to put them back on. So even if a parent wants masks, it is up to the child to do it, with no adult oversight.
We are going to the zoo in Wisconsin this weekend. I think we will probably still not mask (edit: outdoors), but we will also not be going anywhere indoors with the kids. The Provincetown thing actually makes me have pretty strong faith in vaccines, I just want my kids to be able to be vaccinated.
FYI- Aritzia is having a mask sale, 3 for $15! They have the best petite masks I’ve been able to find and all designs are available in regular sizes too. The set I purchased when all this started is still going strong, no visible wear, so the quality is def there. What I like best is their sport mask, which is just a single piece of cotton and doesn’t have the annoying adjustable things hanging off the backs of the ears. They also make some satin and linen ones that are really well tailored for nicer outings, and they’re the same price.
Also I don’t work for them, lol, sorry past copywriter thing is hard to turn off.
I dunno about Milwaukee, but Madison has reinstituted the indoor mask mandate. The only people I’ve seen unmasked inside this week is some random old guys.
We ALWAYS mask indoors, and rarely go inside a building with our kids.
So no restaurants on this vacation. Hotel swimming pool will depend if people are in there.
Any one got some updated info on outdoor transmission? I’ve been attending a lot of unmasked outdoor group events (10-30 people, mostly adults but not always, highly vaxxed area). Most have social distancing but not always (i.e. socially distanced on bikes, but played croquet at the end).
I’ve been pretty much going unmasked on outdoor rides/picnics. When it’s 90F/35C and I’m riding bikes, it’s awful for my skin to let it sweat under a mask for hours. But I might start making different decisions if the data points to that.
(I’ve also been running/exercising at the crowded outdoor track without a mask, and just had it in my pocket in case I stop for coffee).
Thank you! Looking to boost my supply of high quality masks that fit. No offense to the ones my mom made, but they’re starting to look a little grimy and the nose pieces have broken or warped after repeated washes.
Just random datapoint: my rheumatologist recommended as an immunosuppressed person with frequent contact with kids too young to be vaccinated and with international travel, I should just get both shots in an mRNA series even though I’ve had J&J already.
The boosters aren’t approved for immunosuppressed people who got J&J yet, and we have limited data on how effective antibody response even is in immunosuppressed people on J&J.
My six year old’s school work that he brought home included a cut and paste thing with pictures of kids wearing masks correctly and incorrectly and he had to sort the pictures into categories. Including one dick-nose picture. I’m very pleased that five and six year olds are being taught to judge dick nose maskers.
Full approval of Pfizer vaccine expected next week!!
Twitter is telling me this will give doctors the freedom to prescribe off-label, offering flexibility with boosters, and even possibly to give it to kids under 12 using the smaller trial dose. Don’t know how true that is, but would be awesome.
So I’m getting anxiety - not so much of getting covid but of the next door state’s out of control outbreak creeping north and ruining my spring/summer. I can’t deal with more lockdowns. We’re basically covid free and minimal restrictions- or basic ones I am cool with. Masks mostly.
But surely it is coming right? An invisible wave of disease creeping our way? Going to slam shut our lives. Lock us down.
My folks got their booster today due to a friendly pharmacist who said that they take too many meds to not be considered high risk, even though technically they don’t fall under the CDC guidelines. Apparently in Florida all you need to say is that you qualify. It’s an honor system.
I have these feelings too. Maybe it will be ok? But I’m not getting too attached to any plans for the next 6 months or so.
It seems like eventually it’s going to be worse than now regardless because we aren’t going to keep our borders closed forever and even with high vaccination rates, it seems much worse than a bad flu season. I feel really uncomfortable about what that means for people who are likely to have serious illnesses even with vaccination or who can’t be vaccinated
