Covid-19 discussion

MI first dose for 16+ is at 63.7%, fully vaccinated is at 58.2%. We’re getting there I guess!

My cousins husband and her 4 year old son have covid. She’s negative for now. They are vaccinated. They live in florida.

Hoping it stays mild. Fuck.

Overwhelming odds it will stay mild. Hugs though, breakthrough cases feel so scary.

NYC is going to require vaccination for indoor dining and gyms! I’m excited and suspect that this will actually make a difference for people who were on the fence.

excerpt

Anyone who wants to dine, drink, exercise or enjoy a live performance indoors in the city will soon have to show proof of coronavirus vaccination or be denied entry, Mayor de Blasio announced Tuesday in his most aggressive push yet to jack up New York’s flagging immunization rates.

The requirement, which mirrors mandates on leisure activities enforced in some European countries, is presumed to be the first-of-its-kind in the U.S. and comes as the Big Apple is seeing a delta-variant driven surge in new COVID-19 infections.

The program, dubbed “Key to NYC Pass,” will launch Aug. 16 and phase in over the coming weeks before officially kicking off Sept. 13, the start of the school year, de Blasio said in his daily briefing from City Hall.

I’m so happy about this. My wife and I were going to stop indoor dining after her birthday on Monday, and now we won’t have to. (Eating out is one of the things we missed most during the pandemic.) Plus I hope these kinds of guidelines will push people to get vaccinated.

That is fantastic, I wish Chicago would follow suit.

Lolla is over so I guess the mayor can add restrictions now that the crowds have finished spending money downtown and are gone.

Speak for yourself, I can’t do crowds that size even in the Before Times! Ewwww, people.

Pitchfork is still going on? Huh.
OH GOD that is back to back with Riot Fest, consecutive weekends. Superspreaders R Us!

As a follow up to the bullshit single location mask mandated classroom survey that was sent out last week, my whole county is now requiring masks for the first two weeks of school!! In spite of the governor’s order that schools cannot mandate masks! Multiple counties are pushing back against that, it’s going to be very interesting to see how this plays out considering that the state is threatening funding.

Yeah me either. I stopped going to fests at about age 25. Hits all my anxiety buttons, and so expensive.

I’m super interested to see how everything plays out and if other countries follow that lead. I just can’t see the optics of “refused money for schools who institute life saving measures” playing well for Desantis’s presidential bid. I know there’s a percentage of crazy folks who will eat that up, but I hope that the majority won’t.

Dear god…please tell me that is not a real possibility.

I understood that to be his game plan even when he was running for governor. He’s been following in Trump’s footsteps. I feel like I very much understand how Indiana voters felt when they watched Pence ascend over time to become VP. “We want to get rid of him, get him out of our state. Wait, no, not like that.”

I wish. So much of his actions in the past year have been setting himself up for it. I’ve already seen Make America Florida 2024 signs.

Make America Florida

Is there ANY other part of America that wants this to happen?
I mean, I’ve lived my whole life in red states, and can’t recall seeing Florida government as a positive in any of them.

Keeping on with the Ron DeSantis stuff…
“nobody’s trying to get ill here”… apparently we should stop judging people out doing dumb things who get sick.

World Health Org is asking for a moratorium on covid boosters. Essentially saying “it’s ridiculous that rich countries are getting a 3rd shot when the African Union is only 2% fully vaccinated” 80% of covid vaccines have been administered in rich countries.

Well they certainly aren’t try to stay healthy.
