For a minute I thought you were going to bring your toddler, and I was like yeah, don’t do that. But all the advice I’m seeing is that vaccinated adults should consider themselves footloose and fancy-free, and in the situation you describe, I would probably go and I would not be concerned. BUT I would not consider you to be paranoid if you felt differently. It is a big leap to do a big group lunch and I suspect a lot of people are not feeling up to that yet, regardless of what the current science is saying.
I don’t think I saw this posted here yet:
I followed a link to an update on vaccine progress. I didn’t realize they were testing for kids as young as 2!
Yeah, I read somewhere that approvals for kids as young as 2 could come this fall, and then infants over the winter!
Yep, it is very likely by the time Latte turns 2, it will be approved for 2 year olds. Talked to her ped about it last week
Has anyone seen COVID risk assessments for outdoor pools or water parks? A water park visit sounds lovely, and it would be for a group of vaccinated, low-risk adults, but I want to be sure I’m not missing something.
Went to the mall to return something and only saw 2 other non employees wearing masks. The lady ringing me up said that it’s been a mess with people arguing and kicking up a fuss over the fact that the store I was in still required masks. Yikes, y’all.
My understanding is there’s no more risk scenarios for this group, period. Life can be as normal pre pandemic with no restrictions if you fall in this group.
Thanks!!
That sucks. In my area, the big supermarket now only “recommends” it, but I bet 90% still are (I had to go this morning) and the package store next door requires them still and everyone was masked, though I saw several people pull theirs off like immediately upon exiting. (Like, chill people! Will it really kill you to wait 10 seconds until you get to your car? It isn’t hot today, in case you were wondering.)
I often take mine off as soon as I get outside because I never really figured out how to wear my glasses with a mask and once I get outside, I really want my glasses to be on my eyes and not on top of my head. Masking rate in the library where I work is now pretty low. My boss has stopped wearing his in the public spaces
I know I shouldn’t assume! Dude today though was a big burly biker-type guy, no glasses, he just seemed mad he had to wear it in the store.
Ha, yeah, sometimes people just rub one the wrong way.
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone unmasked in the several grocery stores I’ve been to this week, and this county has a realllly high vax rate. And I don’t care if people take them off as soon as they step outside, because the air flow outside is a lot different.
We’re planning on going to the outside pool this summer.
I like water parks, but they have plenty of hazards besides Covid.
I usually take mine off as soon as I step outside. Why not? I like smelling fresh air.
I guess it was the attitude/demeanor? Like, really gave the impression of I’m so mad why do I have to have to even wear this mask god this is so stupid.
I don’t ever take mine immediately off, because my hands are always full They definitely were when I left the package store, because I was carrying a box full of liquor.
This is a very good point about water parks! The risk for COVID in this scenario would be quite low, but there’s also a risk for, I don’t know, weird meningitis or something.
Brain eating amoebas! But also all those icky intestinal things, too.
There’s a fandom convention here in November and masks are required and people are freaking the fuck out about that online.
And it’s like… have you people HEARD of con crud? Cons are petri dishes for all kinds of disgusting illnesses! I WISH I had masked up at some of those in the Before Times when I used to vend at them, because maybe I would’ve avoided the plague!
I know! I’ve been nostalgic for cons lately (haven’t been in like seven years maybe) but was definitely having a mask on in my fantasies of going back again one day (2022 at the soonest).
