This morning at Walmart (it’s the closest source for our hot sauce we like don’t judge haha), I heard of the employees radio “are we enforcing masks today then?”
Cluster indeed.

Apparently the new protocol at my work is that employees still need to wear masks, and we can encourage but not force customers to wear masks. Not sure what that looks like in practice.
I am really confused by the CDC right now.
So my institution just released its plan for fall 21. They used more words to try to make it sound a little less bad, but in a nutshell:
No masks allowed, or no masks required?
It sounds like their plan is “Pandemic? What pandemic.”
None required as far as I know. I can’t imagine they would take on the liability of telling employees they can’t mask - even they aren’t that stupid, I don’t think. And of course they can’t tell students anything about clothing outside of the labs as long as there’s not actual indecent exposure.
I think you’ve summed up the plan perfectly.
My company just sent out an update.
Company-wide, we’re at 49% fully vaccinated of 768 employees. They gave a breakdown of percentages by department and then also a breakdown by location. We’re hosting vaccine clinics at both of our biggest locations to encourage more vaccinations, “encouraging vaccination when it’s not contraindicated”, and “As our vaccination levels reach a higher percentage, we will begin considering opportunities to relax some standards”.
I like this update.
I don’t love that general manufacturing, where people are forced by the nature of the work to be close together all the time, is only at 30% vaccinated. I hope the clinic gets a few more people vaccinated, and that their work schedules don’t make them worried about taking time off for side-effects.
I think some places may go to “no masks allowed”.
I mean, banks are probably pretty uncomfortable with it, even though it seems to work just fine to pull it down when they check your ID (TSA has you do that too)
My cousin got her twelve-ish year old vaccinated! He’s, uh, small for his age. Yep. But definitely twelve. nods
I did some major in person banking business last summer and fall, when we bought a house, and the bank didn’t ask us to pull our masks down. They were very keen that that we not get too close to anyone.
Also, I see where Trader Joe’s says vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks in their stores, but they aren’t checking any credentials. So, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out because I don’t see people who don’t want to be vaccinated wearing masks under these conditions.
Ours makes people pull masks down if they don’t know you. They greet us by name when we walk in though.
Good point- we bought a house last summer. Even though we gave IDs, our masks stayed in. Never thought about that
MI governor removed our mask mandates starting tomorrow. I think medical offices and such still need them. MI Kroger and Meijer grocery stores are still requiring them until further notice though.
I go into the bank so rarely that I’m always like “Wow! New chairs!”
But that relationship banker guy has an amazing memory and does remember our names. He must have flash cards or something.
We opened a new account at a new bank last year and kept our masks on. Also, I’ve always claimed I’d dress nicely to go to the bank, but I ended up wearing my gardening clothes. It turns out that there are occasional perks to being an old lady with a fat bank account.
This is all wild territory for sure. I am newly working essential food prep/retail and the hippy grocery store i work at usually has someone counting heads and checking for masks during peak hours. Today they put a person out there for all the open hours in case of pushback (our county still has an indoor mandate in place).
I do not envy people trying to make decisions right now.
We have been told that masks will not be required in the library starting tomorrow. I was just reading this really moving story about a mom being so happy she could bring her baby to the library for the first time. But now anyone under 12 (and most of those 12-15) will not be safe in the library. I’m so disgusted. I just about had a panic attack and had to put my feet up on a chair.
Yep, Oregon and Washington have rolled back mask requirements and a bunch of stores I frequent have followed suit- so, even though it’s pretty low risk to her I won’t be taking Latte out much to stores for the time being. (We don’t go dine out or anything at this point so no change there).
I dunno. I need to ponder this. I would take her places at this age in a regular flu season (newborn no, toddler age yes), and our cases aren’t awful here. Suburbs so fairly large stores. I need to find where my actions are matching my risk profile and make sure I’m not overdoing it relative to my risk tolerance just because it’s so present in our minds right now.
Guhhhhh it’s hard with kids.
Our case load is still 187 per 100,000, so almost 1 in 200. That seems high to me? My kids are low risk but I’m thinking KN95 masks for them.
Latte can’t mask reliably. It she could, I would be far more comfortable with regular errands etc with her.
