Mom and her BF got the J&J on Tuesday. She barely felt it, he said it was very painful. The next day, both called out of work with intense flu like feelings. She was fine by the next morning, he’s still down and out. They both think he had Covid at one point back when it was impossible to get a test, so possibly he is reacting worse because he already had some antibodies? Not sure.
Yes, this is a thing. People with antibodies from having had COVID are more likely to have worse reaction to vaccine. (Because vaccine is now acting as a booster.)
Sooooo, there is a hospital in a Chicago neighborhood with very high poverty, that was giving vaccines. From the Vaccine Hunters group, sounds like it was well-run and a lot of seniors were having success getting vaxxed there.
Except: they vaccinated ineligible people who work at Trump Tower, the CEO bragged online about vaccinating Eric Trump, and now apparently they vaccinated a bunch of ineligible members of the CEO’s church?
And now the city won’t give that hospital any more vaccine.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
I hope the city at least provides some mass-vax alternative in that neighborhood; as I understand it there isn’t a lot of CTA there and it’s very underserved health- and pharmacy-wise.
My blisters are actually really obnoxious and I don’t like them. And I assume my July bandaid reaction will be worse.
Or should I report my bandaid blisters?
BYOB- bring your own bandaid next time? if you have a type you know you react to less. (I react a lot less to the fabric types than the plastic types, and worst of all to the water proof ones, for example)
If it’s a band aid reaction, I wouldn’t report it, as it’s not a vaccine reaction.
But I’d bring your own band aid if you know you have an allergy.
(I react to a lot of tapes PTs use. So I often bring my own if they don’t have a brand I can use.)
Oh man. A LOT of people react to KT and don’t know it’s super common. There’s a bunch of pregnancy “hacks” about using KT for supporting your belly, and I always try to warn people to patch test first ive never even tried KT since I know how bad I react to most adhesives.
So many mixed feelings. I don’t think shutting them down is the right answer. And while I don’t want someone getting special treatment because of who they are, from a public health standpoint I want “positive” stories about the far right’s superstars celebrating getting vaccinated (no matter my personal feelings about them). I want people to want to get vaccinated.
The left media will probably villainize him for line jumping or whatever and the right media probably won’t mention it at all. Whether or not organizations or individuals are making the right choice on who to vaccinate, the bottom line is Chicago needs more vaccines available, period and the people of Chicago should not be punished because the hospital is doing it imperfectly.
Yeah, it reminds me a lot of the drug testing and stuff for public assistance. Sure, maybe you’ll catch the 1% of fraudsters. But at what cost?
I am absolutely sobbing right now.
Someone on the Vaccine Hunters FB group said that Springfield, IL is currently booking appointments after 4/12, when IL is opening availability to everyone over 16, and they were taking Chicago residents. But you had to call the hotline, the website was still only seniors/essential workers/health conditions.
After 15 minutes on hold Boyfriend and I have appointments for 4/17. We’ll have to rent a car, it’s a 3-hour drive. I don’t give a shit. I am so so relieved that we have appointments, I cannot even. I don’t think many people know that they’re taking appointments that far in advance, I had my pick of days and times. It’s going to be a total zoo once the 4/12 eligibility date rolls around so I am glad I jumped on this.
We might still try for a sooner appointment that is closer for Boyfriend since he is right around the “obesity” weight cutoff (and apparently they don’t weigh you or anything, so I’m told). Hm, actually, I should make him weigh himself so we know for sure! But these appointments are confirmed and on the schedule and it is a huge weight off of me.
My FIL is very very very passive and has been waiting for his health system to contact him to make an appointment for a covid vaccine. He stopped by unexpectedly today, and while he was waiting for my husband to meet him outside I hollered out the window and asked him if he had an appointment yet. He did not. He took me up on my offer to get him scheduled. He’ll be getting his vaccine on Tuesday!
YES
Much excite!
That’s excellent.
Also- another state, but no one even asked me how I qualified for my appointment. So at least in Iowa, anyone who wants COULD get an appt.
I am hearing rumors of this too, and I likely will try and also get us in somewhere closer sooner (and cancelling these if we do). But having something confirmed on the schedule is just such a huge relief, I don’t care if it’s in a month.
Husband has his first appointment on Monday! It’s going to be nice to have the adults in this house vaccinated!
I just got a vaccine! My new primary care provider put me on the wait-list at her office. I missed a call two days ago and I have been keeping the phone close since then.
Looks like I might qualify in Oregon as a 16 - 44 year old with underlying health conditions, depending on how they argue/change the definition of immunosuppression on April 19th!
!!! !!! !!! !!!
I hope you get an appointment sooner but yes even having a date a month out that’s a solid plan is so exciting!
I too will be a sobbing mess when my turn comes around. When I book the appointment, when I’m at the first shot, probably when I’m at the second shot. Life won’t change much for us (pediatric shots will happen … eventually?) but it will still be a mental load off. Even Mr. Meer was casually looking online today and asking questions that made me think he was leaning towards booking in early and hoping they just didn’t give him a hard time about it. As far as I know he hasn’t though.
This might be helpful for parents.
