My daughter’s employer announced today that they will have vaccine clinics at work starting next week. She is just delighted! It looks like all of the adults in our house will be vaccinated before summer.
I think I know how I would react to winning the lottery or war ending is what I’m saying. Lots of crying and picture showing and inability to talk. I should have sugar. We are still really behind on vaccinating here.
I am absolutely thrilled for you.
I was in total shock when I accidentally figured out I was eligible and there were appointments available. I had to have my husband look to confirm because I didn’t think it was real.
400 library employees are getting their first vaccines this weekend! I just filed out the form to apply. It is not clear how many people are in the “100% in-person” group, so I don’t know if we all get shots if we want them?
I bitched a lot about them ending my WFH hours but at least there’s a perk… I am actually only going in 4 days a week and working up to a half–day from home, taking leave for the rest, but that apparently qualifies me as 100% in person. Cross your fingers for me!
yay!
My area is vaccinating 50+, anyone with a pre-existing condition (huge list), and anyone who works with the public in a way that does not allow them to maintain 6 feet. In addition, the local VA has opened up vaccines to all veterans of any ages, which is both amazing, and also concerning, considering that for them to be at that point, a lot of people must be refusing. I think they are giving out Moderna, so I’m hoping that people are just waiting for the J&J one shot deal and not skipping out altogether.
I got my first does of Pfizer this weekend, and had no side effects, which for me is really excellent, because I’m a fainter (always, always) when it comes to needles. I lifted some light weights that afternoon, and was only a bit sore the next day. Second dose is beginning of April…hoping I can get it before I go into labor but this baby is knocking at the door, so we shall see.
This is exactly the reaction I expect to have whenever I get my vaccine. Hell, it’s the reaction I expect to have when I book my appointment.
Yesterday I had a meeting pushed back because the other person suddenly was able to pop out to get a vaccine and he was messaging like “Is it okay to push back the meeting?” and I wanted to be like “HELL YEAH GO GET THAT SHOT DUDE!!”
Headline + Part of a news article. This is bonkers to me:
Covid-19 antibodies present in about 1 in 5 blood donations from unvaccinated people, according to data from the American Red Cross
Updated 12:01 AM EDT March 16, 2021
In the first week of March, more than 20% of blood donations from unvaccinated people had Covid-19 antibodies, according to data shared with CNN by the American Red Cross.
Interesting. That’s the antibody rate they were seeing in NY in April/May when it was running rampant here. I guess the rest of the country finally caught up.
I know here there’s been a heavy push suggesting blood donation as a way to test for antibodies. I wonder if that affected it.
Alaska and Mississippi have opened vaccinations up to anyone 16 and over, woah!
Indiana just opened up to 45+. Sadly for us IL folks who still can’t get one, they require proof of residence.
just got it in my arm about 90 minutes ago hopefully the side effects arent too heinous
Ohio says vaccine is open to anyone who wants it on March 29.
Tales of the vaccinated: Today I put groceries away without bleaching or quarantining. Just…put them in the cabinet, rubbing up against all the other stuff and everything. Now trying to convince my stupid monkey brain this doesn’t mean we’re going to die.
Husband found an appt for Friday. It’s 2 hours away, but closer than the others he’s found, so 4 hours of driving it is.
I will try to find an appt after he has his, so we stagger our shots a bit. I hear that 2nd shot is brutal.
I said to Boyfriend yesterday as we disinfected the grocery delivery that this is one of the things I am most looking forward to.
I realize that it’s totally a monkey brain thing but like… I’ve been doing it for a year now, what’s (what I hope are) another 6 months or so?
There’s so much variance between people, though - husband and I got ours at the same drive-through. He had no symptoms and I was miserable but happy. I could have functioned if I’d had to to feed people I love, but was glad I didn’t. He built a completely optional block wall…
What I’m saying is it’s not worth turning down any available slot in order to stagger things. Worst case is resting side by side, so stocking up on canned soup or something is worth it. Oh, and saltines. I was too nauseous to eat much for about 12 hours.
I’m mildly cranky they won’t take my blood, I want to know if I had it.
