Covid-19 discussion

May come across as vaccinated person bragging, so I’m spoilering just in case

We’re in an interesting spot now. Our neighbors are fully vaccinated, and now we are as well. And we’re in a really interesting place now where even the CDC has officially greenlit us hanging out without masks inside. Up to this point, we’ve only ever done outdoor happy hours together. We’re planning our next happy hour with them, and they’ll be coming over to our house. It’s really bizarre. It feels super intimate now. It’s so weird, because the last several places we’ve lived, we would host to meet ups, book clubs, etc at least once a month if not every couple weeks. But now at this new house, we’ve only ever had immediate family over. And we’ve lived across the street from them this whole time, and interact a couple times a week a lot of times, and they’ve never been inside. It’s just a really strange thing to contemplate. I’m finding myself with a surprising amount of nerves at the prospect of just having friends over for a happy hour. Transitioning to an end stage pandemic life is going to be weird.

This must feel totally bizarre. I think it’s going to weird for a while as we make it through to the other side of this pandemic.

Local mass vaccination event here had 1700 unfilled slots.

I can’t even fathom that. Was it advertised well enough? Awful.

Was that the one from early February or was there another one since then?

Have you had that kind of allergic reaction before?

I’m pretty sure that the pharmacist is capable of whacking you with an epipen and calling an ambulance, because I am capable (and trained!) to do that, and I am no Florence Nightingale.

OMG. I can’t even. As a person desperate to get jabbed but isn’t allowed to be yet, this makes me so sad and angry.

More vaccinated people problems

I am desperate for a change of scenery. I haven’t left NYC since the pandemic started (and I haven’t even left the island of Manhattan except for that one time I took a boat to Ellis Island when cases were down). Due to all the data coming in that suggests the vaccine does indeed reduce asymptomatic transmission, NY has lifted the travel quarantine for recently vaccinated people. BUT my work is so bureaucratic, they are still stuck on the 14 day travel quarantine rule from when we reopened in July. Even though the NY mandate has been 10 days or 4 days with testing for months, and now has further exemptions for vaccination.

So, even if I take a trip that I believe is safe and in full compliance with the CDC, I’d have to take an extra two weeks off afterwards to quarantine. I guess I should be glad my work is taking the pandemic seriously but come on! Get me out of here!!

That’s insane to me! I live in an area that has al lot of hesitancy and you can barely get a vaccine if you are stalking all the websites!

We have finally been given a date when we might be able to get vaccines for our employment group: March 21-25!

My parents are getting their second shot at this exact moment, and I could not be more thrilled for them. My wife and I are in a pod with them (allowed where we are/none of us go anywhere besides the absolute essentials etc.), and one of my big sources of pandemic stress has been inadvertently transmitting the virus to them. My dad is a bit of a hermit, so now I just hope he adjusts back to “normal” life with minimal suffering.

No, but it seems like a few people who have never had a reaction like that have had them from this.

Because what I AM good at is 1:1,000,000 or rarer medical incidences.

Most people when they say stuff like this, I assume it may be hyperbole/a figure of speech. But knowing some of your medical history, I know you’re saying this with absolute accuracy.

My local health department had a clinic with extra doses but you have to live in certain counties. My sister would have driven here from 2 hours away if she had been allowed. The pharmacies are tough to get into according to her.

Michigan is opening up to any adult who wants a shot on April 5th.

It’s still probably as safe to get at the drugstore as anyplace else unless you can actually get it at the hospital.

My sister had an anaphylactic reaction to an allergy shot, and the doctors office really did just use the epipen.

(And she’s had both vaccine doses with no issues.)

The hospital is where my doctor’s office is. We go to the hospital for almost everything. It’s “hospital and clinics”.
