Covid-19 discussion

I now qualify for my vaccine! I got an appointment for Tuesday and am so excited!

Ooof, sorry you had a rough time. Iā€™m glad youā€™re starting to feel better though.

My hopes for a smoother second shot have been dashed. At least I didnā€™t wake up in the middle of the night dizzy and nauseous like last time, but Iā€™ve got the chills, sweating, fever, and aches again. Today will be for me and the couch.

Sorry you are sick also. Just pamper yourself.

This is such a clusterfuck. The whole point of this site was to serve underserved Chicago neighborhoods, but mostly non-Chicagoans have been the ones who were able to get through on the website.
Then they suddenly announced that it was for Chicagoans only. I personally think it should be; our vaccine supply is separate from the rest of the stateā€™s and we are way behind on doses. The communication around this has been so poor though.

Yeah, this sucks.

JESUS CHRIST THIS IS INSANE

I have a vaccine appointment tomorrow! I guess itā€™s open to everyone over 50 here now. Hopefully I donā€™t get refused for not meeting criteria, but they asked for lots of info online.

So, I have seem some discussion about hypothesis about the length of time a covid vaccine works.

Has anyone seen anything about getting the entire population of the globe a booster shot in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year? Whatever that length of time is?

Iā€™ve seen absolutely nothing about the fact that we will likely need regular booster shots of this vaccine.
Especially since the US is likely to never reach herd immunity, so spread will be ongoing, and continually mutating.

I have lost all faith in people to care about each other.

Iā€™ve seen lots! The UK is planning to start with boosters for the variants in the fall. Iā€™m not sure about the timing for other reasons though. Scientists including public health are definitely working on it!

Iā€™ll amend that and say I have seen one thing about a booster for a variant that the original doesnā€™t cover. But there doesnā€™t seem to be much information out there (at least not around here) that this shot is a very temporary thing.

My hope is that, if we need yearly boosters, we can do some sort of combined flu and covid booster. Just make it as boring and rote as getting your flu shot :crossed_fingers:

I really hope annual is frequent enough. That will make things so much easier.

And that they figure out something for kids soon.

One thing is, we donā€™t KNOW yet. We just donā€™t have that data. And mutation rate is directly related to the number of infections out there. So I think partially itā€™ll depend on how hard, fast, and ubiquitously we can vaccinate the entire world. :woman_shrugging: And otherwise, waiting for more data, too.

Mutations will be such a problem in the US since it is still spreading mostly unchecked and huge portions of the population have no plans to get vaccinated.

The group I did puzzles with this weekend (about 45 people all across the country) all expect covid-19 to be eradicated in May, since all Americans will have their vaccinesā€¦ sigh. Thatā€™s not at all what is being said by Biden about May.

Talk about fantasy thinking by some people. I wish it was that easy.

Eta didnā€™t have time earlier to add to this, but these are the new CDC guidelines for fully vaccinated individuals.

Ugh, that sucks. One of the organizations in my city is prioritizing people from specific high-risk zip codes. You have to prove address, which is its own issue for people with unstable housing, but at least prevents this problem.

Iā€™m trying to figure out if I qualify for the vaccine once this group is included for MA

Medical supply chain workers

  • Workers at manufacturers (including biotechnology companies and those companies that have shifted production to medical supplies)

How do they determine what a BioTech company is? The company I work for has Bioscience in the name, we make machines that pharmaceuticals companies use for drug discovery. I always say I work in BioTech :woman_shrugging:

Does anyone know of a resource that explains this better or do I just have to wait and see if I can get an appointment when this group is eligible?

My experience in the lawless and reckless world of Florida is that the retail vaccine sites tend to be looser in interpretation than the state run ones. I would call and ask once the order goes into effect. Also badger your companyā€™s HR department, this seems like the sort of thing they should know.

I am HR  and they canā€™t figure it out
