Last Tuesday my university canceled all events and moved to online classes starting this week (technically next week since this is break) through April 4, to reevaluate at a later date.
That later date was today: all in person activities have now been suspended and all classes will be online through the remainder of the spring semester.
Schools closed
University online only
24 hour stores closed from 11pm to 6am for cleaning and restocking
Movie theater closed
Casino closed
Library closed
Restaurants closed for dining in
Maybe more, Iām not sure
My question is:
I work in an office with 6 total people, but very public facing. We are business as usual now. Itās a kitchen design shop, so people come in and we also go to their homes. We are absolutely non-essential, but canāt really wfh either. What does it mean if we get closed? Doors locked and no employees in the building at all? Can we be there getting caught up on work that we are behind on as long as the doors are locked? No delivery of products in or out?
In the āgood newsā camp, Amazon is hiring 100,000 workers (including whole foods employees) likeā¦THIS week, due to the crush in demand, and is offering $2 more per hour to their employees, who in the US already got at least $15/hr and paid sick leave.
My SIL just texted me that she is currently sick. She hasnāt been able to get tested for Coronavirus so they are treating her for an ear infection. She was at a bar this past weekend for St. Patrickās Day, uploading tons of videos and pictures of her and her friends all partying close together. I AM SO GD MAD AT HER. I was mad before she got sick, but nowā¦ UGHHHH. I donāt have the relationship with my ILs where I can say anything. I am really pissed.
Iāve joined a facebook group where people are being paired with medical staff to be their āgo toā person for supplying food, getting groceries etc. I havenāt offered our services yet as weāre still sorting our selves out, but am keeping an eye on it in case there is something we can clearly do.
āWe donāt believe in quarantine, we believe in prayer!ā
ā[Our son in law] shook hands with our townās first corona patient! It was so interedting!ā
āWe reject the spirit of fear!ā (And so still plan on driving cross country to visit the kids and I)
Yes, I was just speaking to my parents. How did you guess? I said that we canāt receive guests because of quarantine and mum said itās ok because weāre family.
Currently trying to put together my very first grocery delivery order. I was going to just deal with using what I have, but I am not going to be quarantined without sugar or dish detergent if I can help it.
Can someone explain why it might be better to have things delivered rather than going to the store myself? I want to do the best thing possible but Iām having a hard time distinguishing since whoever delivers the order would presumably be coming in contact with a lot of other people, so how is this better? If I just go to the store and practice good hygiene during/after, is that worse?
We are going to run out of food (and toilet paper) next week and I have to go to a Dr. appointment on Wednesday so I was planning to stop by the store after and have that be our one outing for the next long while. Is this a bad plan? (The dr. appointment is non-negotiable and based on the multiple emails from the office, they are taking things seriously and limiting as many appointments/people in the waiting room as possible)
My delivery is coming tomorrow, Iām leaving a tip under the doormat (the app didnāt let me tip?) and theyāre leaving the bags on my doorstep. Iāll bring it all in and put it away, then Iāll wipe the floor where Iāll have the bags while putting away, and wash my hands. And be careful during the put away process not to touch my face or anything like that
