I thought to get protected, you had to do it the other way around?
Wouldn’t a cloth mask interfere with the seal of an N95? Like, if facial hair can compromise it, as I’ve read, then I’d think a cloth mask, which takes up more space than facial hair unless it’s a full-on big hipster beard, would also compromise it?
I honestly don’t know the answer to this…
I tend to reuse the same cloth mask all day, but I usually only wear it for 30 min-1 hour at a time during my commute, when I step out of my private office, or to run quick errands. If I wear it for several hours in a row I switch it out, but mostly just because it starts to feel gross.
At the end of the day, I hand wash it with soap and warm water. I have 5 favorites that I wear in rotation, so each mask has plenty of time to dry. I throw them in the wash for a deeper clean every few weeks.
(I will note that I have to go to laundromat and only do laundry once every week or two anyway. If I had laundry in my apartment I’d probably wash the masks more frequently.)
What about some cloth that fits inside the n95, not interfering with the seal, but will deal with nose outputs?
I’ve seen nursing accounts talk about shoving Kleenex under your nose inside your mask
Given that you seldom go outside, is there an effective cold medication that would stop your sinuses from running while you’re outside?
Hm, I have not ever taken cold meds to try and deal with cold-weather snot. Mainly because, well, in the Before Times I could just take out a kleenex and blow my nose like a normal person because my face didn’t have to be constantly covered?
Claritin-D works well for me for allergy congestion but I’m down to 2 pills and you have to go into a pharmacy and sign for it, which is not a thing I am doing right now. I think we have some dayquil or something in our stash, that I bought a year ago in case of covid? Not that cold meds would help much against covid, but I didn’t know that last March when I was panic-buying.
Kleenex under the mask sounds like a better solution than medicating myself for convenience.
What the fuck, Wisconsin?
Pre pandemic if we worked sick, we loaded our noses with tissue bullets then masked up, changing everything between patients (hourly).
The physios never masked up until January 2020
If I’m only wearing them for a short time every day I could go 4-5 days before I throw it in the wash. If I’m hiking I usually throw it in the wash after because it’s gotten condensation inside.
Works for me!!
Well, local infection rate should be getting better rapidly. The county health department has just announced they’re not doing any Covid testing For the forseeable future.Apparently, they’ll start back when they run out of vaccine, so I guess if they have to choose one or the other, vaccination is the way to go. But this means they’re shorthanded they absolutely can’t do both.
ETA: Or, more likely, they came under political pressure not to test.
I wash my underwear even if I only wear it for a few seconds.
But I only wear sports bras, and well, now that I work from home, I don’t wear bras.
But I do the same with my cloth masks. I get a new one anytime I take it off my face and then need another. But I have a stack of 30 of them in my car.
I don’t know if someone already posted this, but I thought this was a useful video for pregnant/seeking to get pregnant people about the vaccine
My father got his first dose of moderna this morning! He showed up at 5 AM to get in line and was number 25. Also, it was supposed to be a drive-through, but then they changed their mind and made everyone crowd inside where the wasn’t room for social distancing. Also the cops keeping an eye on things inside refused to wear masks. All of the old people smashed in there did, at least.

This should be criminal. I’d be calling the Chief of Police and complaining like crazy.
Guarantee that would get you nothing but a lecture on how the virus is a hoax.
Even here in my flamingly liberal city, the cops will not wear masks. A co-worker once called one out and got a volley of profanity in return.
She reported him. Nothing happened. Maybe if he’d given the finger and she got it on camera (a cop here was punished, though I don’t believe fired, for doing that at BLM protesters over the summer.)
I don’t think there’s any requirement that they wear masks where my parents live - I know there’s none here where I am. It’s remotely possible they should have been since they were actually inside the county health department, but none of the healthcare workers said anything to them, so…
I saw plenty of Portland cops not wearing masks throughout the summer.
I’m yet to see a cop here wearing one.
It seems they wear them indoors, but not outdoors here.
