Our main grocery store sets a limited number of pick up slots. And it seems like they do a big shop in the morning when it’s slower. I don’t think it’s strange the staff that much. If anything, it might make it easier having products not have to be put out on the shelves before they then go to the customer.
The grocery store is literally the only place I go, ever. It’s usually the highlight of my week. I’m outside! There are people around that aren’t my family!
If things get very bad I’ll stop going but I really really don’t want to.
Husband has suggested that I take over grocery duty once I get the second vaccine and I am so pumped!
I’m probably gonna go at some weird hour on a Tuesday to avoid too many humans.
I do weekday mornings so there are no crowds at all and keep my distance, but just being NotHome is a big deal. I know you know what I mean.
We try to go 7 or 7:30ish on Sunday, there’s fewer people than when we went early on weekdays. I mean, we’re up anyway at that point but Sunday morning people either want to be sleeping in or they’re going to church.
Definitely interested!
That is good information, except that
I am these people.
Crossing my fingers for you! My mom got it last week (allergy nurse) and she just had a sore arm the next day and no other reactions.
Just got it done! Sitting in the monitoring area. Ended up being the moderna one.
Discussion of shot
The shot itself didn’t hurt at all (some of the tropical disease vaccine I remember stinging like a MOFO when they went in. This did not at all. Like a flu shot- tiny needle, don’t feel it at all when it goes in).
Same for me, but I put a surgical mask over it and it helps with the seal because they hit my face in different places. I also use an ear protector thing so the straps are pulled tighter than if they were just on my ears. My doctor’s office was always crowded and I had monthly appointments for most of 2020 so I finally figured out this set-up.
I just tie knots in the ear loops!
Ah, okay. They’re MSA brand comfo classic respirators. Be sure to also buy P100 filters. E we got ours from Grainger Equipment, but Amazon also carries them. They’re supposed to be professionally fit checked, but only come in 3 sizes: S, M, L. You’ll take an L I’m sure; husband does, and his was fit checked at work. I assumed I’d need S but it didn’t even get under my jawline at all so I traded for M, which works. The quick and dirty way to check the fit is to put it on, cover the air intakes where the filters go, and try to breathe in. If you can, it’s wrong, but if you can’t get any air with your hands over it, it fits right.
Respirator -be sure to find your size. Both rubber and silicon are available. There are full face versions but they’re much more expensive. Expect the half mask respirator to cost about 50 bucks by itself and the cartridges to be about 100 bucks for a set of six.
Cartridge (any P100 will do; Ours also filter out organic vapor and several gases because that’s what was available when we ordered)
Editing the ad: the air outlet on these respirators is unfiltered, so to avoid being an asshole, I’ve sewn a tiny little “sock” to go over it and hold it on with a rubber band.
I was amazed at how much it did not hurt getting the shot. Maybe the pharmacist I’ve been getting my flu shot from the past few years is just really bad at it?
Does anyone have a good recommendation for reputable place to order kn95 masks? I’ve been wary of ordering them because of the fear of getting counterfeit ones. But if I’m going to start going out into the world again, I want better than my current system of surgical mask layered with 3 ply cloth mask.
Awesome. I’ve got accounts with grainger and u-line. I’ll see what I can get ahold of. Thank you so much!
Welp, the UK variant has been found in Chicago. In other news, the pope’s Catholic and bears shit in the woods.
It was all around us in other states; was only a matter of time.
I am slowly going insane from not having stepped foot inside a building since the day before Thanksgiving. Unless you count contact-free lobby drop-offs that my neighbor and I do when one of us has food to share.
I got mine from a place called Well before that I think I heard about in a news article of reputable places. They came quickly and are individually wrapped.
I figured you might go to Granger route, but thought I’d provide the Amazon for reference pictures and for folks that don’t want to go to that much trouble.
+1 for Well Before. My company actually tested a number of masks and recommended that one (looks like they didn’t publish or else I would link).
Huh, they have N95s too. Good to know!
