Iāve been thinking about you. Also your pictures. And the fact that your kids are vastly different ages and sizes than I believe but the cutest and deserve the most hugs. And that you deserve the most vaccine
Iām so tired of seeing office Christmas party photos were 15-20+ people are sitting around a table, with normally spaced chairs, eating.
āNo masks needed because we were eatingā
Oh good, the virus respects eatingā¦
I probably have missed this detail in all the vaccine coverage, but, Iām curious how the second required doses will be managed. Once someone is approved to get the vaccine, do they give you a first-shot appointment and a second-shot appointment at the same time? If not, what happens if there isnāt an open appointment during the window that you need the second dose? How will they make sure that your second dose doesnāt end up in someone elseās arm as a first dose, and then thereās no supply available for your second dose?
Hopefully someone in charge is already thinking about this? Maybe this is left up to individual states and cities to manage, since everyoneās probably getting a different amount?
This drives me insane too.
Huge hugs. Thank you. I need to get through the next week and will hopefully have a little rest then. I am doing OK setting boundaries and practicing self-compassion because the alternative is breakdown.
We are all physically healthy and Iām very grateful for that. I think we are focusing on the right things this Christmas.
Iāve decided the vaccine is going into my arm, with no hesitation, when my turn comes up. The risk-benefit is in favour. I donāt know how far back in the line I am. Might push me up a little that I can get to a distribution point, benefits of big city living.
I hope ās first Christmas is joyful in spite of all the pandemic stuff.
How will people know when it is their turn for the vaccine? Iām pretty far down on the list myself, but my mom should be fairly high up.
That Iām not sure, but if she doesnāt have a PCP/GP, I would make a point to establish care now.
I DO know I got a recruiting email from CVS saying theyāre bringing on thousands of nurses/pharmacists/pharm techs to be their ācovid vaccination teamā.
A podcast I was listening to earlier (On Point maybe?) basically said āThatās an excellent question! Um, ā So every state is working it out for themselves.
That is one thing everyone seems to be agreeing on, they need to vaccinate the health care workers first so that they have enough healthy people to get everyone else vaccinated.
I also heard an interview with a (the?) chief of the Cherokee Nation about how theyāre doing better than other groups and the interviewer basically asked āAre you as a group doing better because youāre always neglected by the government historically?ā And the answer was a diplomatic āā¦ yup. Pretty much.ā
Thatās what Iām worried about, Boyfriend and I have no PCP and even before covid I was having trouble finding anyone in a reasonable distance who was on my insurance, taking new patients, and didnāt have abysmal reviews.
I assume you canāt do a first visit with a new doctor virtually? Sigh.
I do have a GYN and am scheduled for my annual in early Feb but am thinking of postponing as her office is attached to a large hospital that has, last I checked, 19 percent bed availability so I assume the whole buildingās full of covid. I guess Iāll see how things are looking in Feb. Right now, being indoors in a building of any kind if itās not an emergency seems like a very bad idea.
Good to know about CVS though. If Iām not eligible until spring/summer anyway, which seems likely, maybe theyāll do some sort of outdoor vaccine thing.
Iām not sure, I think we are still planning out logistics. Iām an odd duck because I work in an essential industry for a very big org. They will tell me when itās my turn and Iāll show up with my employee badge. For my spouse and kids I assume it will be summer.
I wonāt be surprised if we see employees and families of employees for large organizations end up skipping the line. Especially with the extremely low temperature storage vaccines, you have to use them within a certain amount of time of opening the pack. So if you buy a giant lot of vaccines, youāre not going to sit around worrying about which of your employees versus their family members are over 55 years old. Youāll just use all the extras for any employees you can cover and use up what you got. So I think in countries where distribution will be more decentralized, we will actually see the guidelines as just that- guidelines. I donāt think there will actually be a regimented order. Thatās my guess.
ETA especially if they order on an estimate of their employees that qualify under age limits, and then some of those employees decline the vaccine.
I expect the roll out here will be similar to the influenza vaccine, and our GPs tend to send out reminder letters or call up for particularly at-risk people, and thenā¦ something something.
Agreed. I would expect to see dual prong GP/specialist reminders, and pharmacy availability, just like with flu vaccine. But itāll be really interesting to see!
A friend of mine was able to do a first appointment with a new doctor locally so it wouldnāt hurt to ask.
My employer is getting in a batch because they have the only suitable refrigeration in the area. I may be summoned for mine as soon as the do the nursing homes, which of course is likely to be April-June.
Uhā¦ Canada and the UK are less likely on that.
But in the UK one of the requirements for seniors to be higher up is āalready have an appointment scheduled as outpatientā. So I think that our healthcare facilities will end up giving doses to patients and providers who are already in the vaccinating facility, even if they would be lower on the list, because of storage concerns
When I went to the gyno a week ago, they asked me if I wanted a flu shot. Maybe your gyno could get you a covid vaccine?
Maybe? My gyno always asks me too during my annual.
Maybe thatās an argument for pushing my appointment into the spring/summer, since at that point my number should be coming up as a non-chronically ill non-senior? Hm. The only thing is whether sheāll renew my script with no inperson probing. I donāt think I need a papsmear this year though, I had one last year and due to low risk I donāt have to get one yearly.
Iām pretty sure a flavour of this is why my dad got a vaccine already- they were vaccinating everyone in the hospital and had stock to use up so someone lower down the list but already in the building gets bumped up
Iām not sure how long your prescription is for but maybe she can do a 90 day renew or 180 day renew if you push out your appointment to spring? Seems like a good compromise if sheās not bound by dumb insurance requirements.
