So ChatGPT has been scraping over at the other place and causing tremendous slow downs. Also, apparently making it easy to try to find out more about posters over there in a hurry. For example, now if I ask Chat GPT to tell me about the poster Rural over there, I get this:
Apparently it’s possible to figure out what IP they’re using and block it? Wondered if that might be a good idea over here. Here’s the discussion:
I tried a few searches on my username and another persons. I am not experienced with ChapGPT - but the results were pretty vague. Not sure what you might find without usernames.
Unfortunately they won’t be on one IP address but much of our forums (everything in journals) is hidden from indexing and non members. I’ll see if there’s more we can do to protect. We also have cloudflare which makes it much harder for bots to crawl.
For comparison’s sake. I have 4,238 total posts over there at the moment, but I haven’t posted outside the journals in years and even within the journals it’s been infrequent. Guess I was pretty chatty early on though, time to go delete.
