Strangely enough, as a Franco-Ontarian, the “ananas” thing is one of the few Canadian things of my generation that I just didn’t get; I needed it explained to me.

Once I found out it was for kids who did French immersion (which I had first heard as “Frenchie version” when I was in grade 1 and their was a “Frenchie version” class at my school), it all made sense. To the extent that talking pineapples make sense.
