Y’all. 15 minutes of DuoLingo is SO LONG.

I know that’s ridiculous, but it sure feels like forever.

It is SO long. It’s silly because if I do other languages practice, 15 minutes goes quickly, but something about Duolingo feels like forever.

Come be me and @AmandaS1989 friend on Duolingo if you are competitive. We both do a lot of points and that helps!

(I am currently trying to get to the diamond league so I have to get like 800- 1500 points a week.)

Week 1

Groceries: $175/800 - 2 big shops from Costco and FoodWorks (local produce supplier) that should last almost 2 weeks. We are almost out of granola but I refrained from buying more - planning to make some with the copious oats & maple syrup in the pantry

Baby stuff: $420/600 - Made the 2 big planned purchases (car seat, changing pad). Picked up a couple bags of newborn clothes from BN. Tonight I’ll make a list of what’s still missing and post the wishes.

Thanks for the offer!

@anomalily I got a 497-day streak going strong. I’m in the diamond league and holding steady.

1062 day streak but I’m stuck in the ruby league for now, climbing up

I’ve just started using duolingo again. But no where near that many points in a week

You’ll get there. Once you get up here all you gotta do is stay in the top 45 so it’s much easier then.

Checking in for the first Saturday.

  • Credit card category: 394.49
  • Family Fun & Festivals category: 69.19
  • Stupid Work Stuff category: 24.01
  • Babysitting category: :white_check_mark:
  • Business category: 184.45

I took a look at the history of the Stupid Work Stuff category. I have never spent more than $4 from that category, and I last used it over a year ago–$1 for a bottle of dish soap for the kitchenette, IIRC. I’m decreasing the goal to $4 and shifting the money elsewhere.

Is it too late to join? Assuming not, my goals are:

  • Reconcile spending in tracking app on Mondays and Fridays at a minimum
  • Update Mr H on our spending once a week on Friday / Saturday / Sunday (flexible with which of those days since toddler tends to disrupt rigid plans)
  • Garden spending not to exceed $50 + gift cards at Bunnings (the $50 is to enable buying something slightly more expensive than my gift cards) and whatever my soil and mulch order ends up being ($400ish probably :grimacing:)
  • Groceries not to exceed $800 which sounds like a lot but we have been super spendy on groceries lately
  • Takeaway and restaurants not to exceed $500 (that sounds like a LOT but we also have a bunch going on this month including a million birthdays…). This category deliberately excludes catering spend for Mr H’s birthday party :balloon:

All in Aussie dollarydoos.

Checkin:

  • Have updated all direct debits to line up with new pay. But i don’t know what my fortnightly pay will be exactly as this was a shorter pay cycle so this will be revised next time.

  • Have been tracking everything in a spending app to get more of an idea what I’ve been spending money on.

Whoops, I got used to checking in on Mondays.

Groceries: $24.42/300.00 – a variety of squashes from a farm stand, half and half, husband sandwich supplies, cilantro, eggs, maybe other things I have forgotten

Retirement: $0/500.00 – I have $300 in my YNAB bucket for this but have sort of been waiting to see if the market is going to tank due to US political reasons. I’ll probably move that to my IRA Monday.

I’m in the Ruby league too but only on a 55 day steak. At one point I maxed out all of the lessons for Spanish but I went back in and there are a million more now, plus the stories! I love the stories! All of my lessons that were finished are now at level 1 of 5 so I have a bunch to do, but it’s super annoying to do the early ones because I really don’t need to practice that “mujer = woman” or “yo soy”. I have a damn degree in spanish. I might get too annoyed and stop.

I think you can test out of them instead of having to go through it all over again.

That would be nice. I know you can “pay” with gems to take a test for each level of each lesson but that’s a bit monotonous too. It keeps prompting me to take a progress quiz, which might be like the initial quiz I took when I first set it up that passed me out of a lot of lessons, but it requires the subscription. I haven’t been able to bring myself to pay to subscribe yet.

Actually when you click on the lesson and it brings up the tips/start thing, in the upper right there’s a key. I think you click that to take a test. You don’t have to ‘pay’ in gems. You just can’t get more than three wrong.
