I should be clear, it’s an inadvertent monocular (but now we’re thinking of replacing it with a real one)

4 hours north, and the only wildlife photo I managed was a heron
Other members of the group saw a loon, a deer. We did the most hiking, and saw a groundhog, a red squirrel, and a chipmunk. Plus a black throated green warbler, but only just enough for a positive ID.

heron in flight (no photo), two egrets chasing each other (only photo of the one that stuck around, and alas the best didn’t work out - you can see in my journal), and a red tailed hawk.
pretty good for a very busy park on a beautiful long weekend day

Rare bird sighting - pair of Mississippi Kite! Sadly my battery ran out shortly after these photos. Got a few extra shots by using the very slow car USB (and the sun had come out…)
… but by then only Osprey remained where I could see.

When we went to the park yesterday, it was nearly empty! Weather wasn’t even that bad. Overcast but not really raining. Sun came out.
This morning, it’s still party cloudy, much warmer. Rained some while we were there. It was PACKED. The key location for the kites was a filled parking lot. MvR dropped me off and parked at a nearby parking lot. There seemed to be a couple dozen birders / photographers, some just waiting, others walking the trail. Unfortunately the sun / clouds kind of conspired against any great photos. Much too much backlighting. MvR and I enjoyed seeing it eat something, but the photos of that didn’t really work out.

was it packed because the kites had been reported? or just friday vs weekend?
