From a group hike this morning (6 of us). Note two nearly identical photos because I struggle a bit here. Like the eye contact / bird’s expressiveness better in one, but nicer view of the feathers in the other.
What do you think?

I think it comes down to what you want to convey. Is it scientific ‘this is what the feathers look like’ or ‘connect with this other creature in the world’? (my framing might betray my preferences)
Ha I really do think someday I need an art class (or at least a book) as I’m quite procedural in how I photograph…
there is how one photographs, and then there is how one edits & decides which to share
Nuthatch is a neat bird.
Titmouse goes all-in, then later comes away with a big prize from the nut-based suet!
Downy loves the suet and several visit often!
Fat round birds. Sooo satisfying
This morning, we took Keeley to our local park for a 1.4 mile walk, as we had some plans in the afternoon. Saw the above Downy Woodpecker, Northern Pintail (!!), and Northern Flicker.
My afternoon plans! Took MIL to Middle Creek, where we met up with some friends.
Tundra swans, snow geese, Canada geese. Mallards, American black duck
Common merganser, American widgeon. And both female and male hooded merganser!
Bluebird and song sparrow.
Was excited to see a red-tailed hawk today but it was far off and I didn’t get very clean photos.
bluebirds, just so blue (eg compare to red tail. which is more red-ish)
Last year for my birthday MvR got me a subscription to BWD and this issue came with a nice poster I hung up in my office next to the window where I watch the red-shouldered hawks!
