Big Sale Holidays

This weekend is a big sale holiday in the US. How do you handle these? Do you try to unsubscribe from as many retailer mailing lists as possible and freeze your credit card in a block of ice? Do you have your eye on something special or sorely needed that rarely goes on sale? Do you budget for this, or is it a fun time to hunt for deals? Found something on deep discount and want to share with the class? Do you just like spectating what other people buy on sale? Here’s a thread!

Personally I will be avoiding sales and unsubscribing from retailer mailing lists. The only thing that could tempt me is a mattress lol. But I’d have to go in person, and that’s not gonna happen…

It is??? What holiday is it?

Not going on social media and not being on text/push notifications for businesses helps me

Memorial Day!

I never see the stuff I actually want on holiday “sales”!

I’m ordering an emergency radio today, though.

When has this stopped the US before lol

I unsubscribed from the vast majority of sale emails 6 months ago because I am on a clothing no buy and it is so good

When I was growing up we had school on Memorial Day, because it was a Yankee holiday. I was pretty shocked when we moved up north and stuff was actually closed.

I unsubscribe from marketing emails as soon as they send me the first one, so I don’t pay any attention to “sale” holidays :woman_shrugging: except for Thanksgiving, of course.

This might explain why the jumpsuit I bought a week ago from Pact is now on sale for $14 cheaper though!

Aren’t the only sales this weekend for Mattresses?

Everything seems to be an excuse for a sale now - but Memorial Day sales have been around for a long time. Seems like it often focuses on big ticket household items items (appliances, mattresses).

There are some things I always keep in my cart (mostly consumable outreach supplies like batteries, solder, LEDs, etc.) and if I get a ping about those dropping past a certain threshold I’ll grab enough for the next event just so I’ve always got a stockpile. And there are usually a few things on my list that I’d either like for myself or like for a gift that I might pick up if they drop too, but those are mostly an ‘if I happen to notice’ type thing.

I haven’t seen anything much happening coming up on the weekend this year so this might be why

I don’t know yet, but one with a hand crank, for sure. And I’m moving that solar generator up the list, too.

I hunted up my emergency lights and charged them this morning, a bit late. Lol

What was really handy last night was the around the neck light I use for knitting so I’m going to get one for dh, too.

I do! EDIT: I do NOT. I read that wrong. I freeze my CREDIT in a block of ice (metaphorically.) My credit card is usually melting.

But I also tend to (frequently) visit a price aggregator / sale web site that ends up leading me to make unnecessary purchases  Got hooked back when I built computers a lot, finding some significant savings on parts like motherboards and video cards, and still haven’t broken my addiction completely.
