A US Election Thread Where We Will Be Nice to One Another (but not to seditionists)

Same. Local elections, quite frankly, have way more impact on individual voters’ lives than presidential elections, and I feel like that’s the only thing I can bring myself to care about rn.

I care, and I will vote against Trump the most effective way I can, regardless of any other consideration. At this point, I’m quite certain it’s a matter of life and death. Maybe my personal life or death. I can afford to have private scruples, still, but not to express them or to act on them, so I will go, I’ll vote Biden, and I’ll hope like hell he wins. Regardless.

Yep. I’d rather another candidate, but getting rid of Trump is kind of a priority for me for a lot of reasons. There’s been enough damage done at this point. Unfortuantely it seems like the best I can hope for on the Biden side is that he picks a decent running mate.

I will not be “voting for Biden” so much as I will be “voting against Trump”. I may prefer another candidate, but I would vote for whoever it is honestly.

Yeah this is me too. I am really, really, really not excited about voting for another man who’s been accused of sexually assaulting someone, with a poor record on voting for women’s & reproductive rights. Trying hard not to be disheartened by the fact that there were several other well qualified and arguably better candidates yet here we are.

Anyone feel like we might get a VP pick that will be exciting enough to care about?

I desperately hope so, this is kinda what I’m clinging to

I really want it to be Stacey Abrams which means it probably won’t be Stacey Abrams. I’m really curious if it will end up being a woman.

I was assuming it will be a woman based on things he has said. Fingers crossed.

He pledged that it would be a woman, and if he goes back on that, it’s a disaster.

Betsy Devos is a woman.

You hush. I’m embarrassed to be from the same state as her.

I spelled her name wrong in a show of disdain, if that helps.

Hey i didn’t say it was gonna solve anything, but I don’t think he could recover from going back on a campaign pledge to make the pick a woman he made just a few weeks ago

When are running mates generally announced?

Usually leading up to the nominating convention.

It varies widely based on how the primaries go.

He’ll likely announce before the convention - but the convention isn’t happening in person this year, so ??? who knows - all bets are off. He said on May 1 he’d assembled his selection committee.

He probably would’ve announced sooner if senate hadn’t been in full crisis mode.

The sooner he picks someone, the sooner he can capitalize off that as far as press and campaigning; he might want to announce a pick now to try to tamp down the current negative press cycle - likely most of the possible candidates weren’t ready yet to be positive they wanted to attach themselves.

Abrams is full on campaigning for the slot right now.

I just… we could’ve had a good candidate. we could’ve. we had good choices. none were perfect, but lots were better than…whatever this is.

we don’t have good choices.

and another trump presidential term is a-coming.

I am really hoping this is not true yet simultaneously preparing for it to be true.

I honestly think he’s killing off his base too fast for that.

I’m in deep red Trump country. I’m seeing a lot of disdain for his handling of the epidemic from people I never imagined I would. It seems to have taken a wave of dead relatives and friends, but at least that seems to be having an effect.

That and hunger, which is growing here, even though we reopened stupid early and are seeing the cases and deaths rising as a result.
