A US Election Thread Where We Will Be Nice to One Another (but not to seditionists)

Uggh my soul knows this is likely but it is so crushing to accept. America really sucks a lot.

Accidentally posted this on the wrong thread, and now OMD forums is yelling at me :c

There are still 14 more primary voting dates left:

It’s not over yet. If you’re able to and have time, text campaigning is easy to go through remote training for, and you only need a computer or smart phone.

No, I think Biden wins. He’s very well liked in Florida, and we are a critical state.

The delegate math just doesn’t work anymore. Biden has got it.

I’ll still be voting in my state, and sanders will overwhelmingly win here if 2016 is anything to go by, but we have a teeny amount of delegates.

I’m focusing my energy on downballot races.

My parents, first gen immigrants living extremely close to the poverty line who have been democrat voters since they got their citizenship, texted me frantic that Sanders might be the candidate. They are considering not voting if he is nominated.
I feel like a lot of Sanders supporters don’t really understand how damaging the socialist label is to Sanders among an older demographic.
I also understand people who are in more marginalized communities thinking that Sanders might be too much change and deciding to go with a “safe” candidate.

God I wish Warren was still in the race.

He has underperformed in several states he previously did well in last go around. I don’t remember which ones but I recall seeing that in one of the articles I read. Don’t know if there’s any exit polling data yet to suggest why.

That’s because “socialist” is a really nebulous term. There’s a lot of different ways to be socialist and it’s easy to scaremonger people by pointing to the worst instances of self-described socialist governments who were very totalitarian

I do the finances for a black-run radio station in a majority white, very blue state and every older African-american voter* I know has said they have too much to lose in this election to vote for a socialist candidate. Biden is safe.

That being said, that’s anecdote. But the data is overwhelmingly backing me up.

*Black voters also don’t swing Oregon, however hispanics/latinx voters can.

I know some conservative voters who dislike Trump but who dislike Bernie more. So they might vote for Biden (or a third party candidate, or no one) if it comes down to Biden/Trump, but they would swallow their dislike of Trump and vote for him if it came down to Sanders/Trump, because they dislike Bernie that much.

(I don’t pretend to know if that will have any real influence.)

Yeah I know a lot of people who would probably think like that, unless they are like my parents who when push comes to shove are single-issue anti-abortion voters.

Your parents sound like my mom.

I’m a single-issue “gotta think I’m a full human” voter, which among other things means abortion rights, but I’ve accepted I’ll have to make an exception and vote for Biden if he’s the nominee.

Well, Bernie’s out.

I’m withdrawing from most social media for a while and heavily curating what I don’t withdraw from.

I am desperate to be off social today especially - well, mainly twitter - and wish I could (too bad it’s my job). I think you’re smart.

Just popping in on this thread to drop the most extended deflating sigh I can muster.

Thanks friend. Getting to know myself has been the toughest, most rewarding journey.

I just need to not be bombarded with COVID-19, 2020 election, etc. right now, you know?

It’s bad enough that I’m stuck in my apartment.

I am not working this election cycle, unlike last presidential election cycle, and this is legitimately almost as bad.

I’m so disappointed in the candidate.

I’m so checked out.

I will vote. Don’t get me wrong. But no one should have expectations as to whom I will vote for.
