2020 Goals and Vision

Hmmm I’m PTF and will mull this over and post!

2020 Goals:
General

  • Do a voluntary talk at work.
  • Call Home and Sister at least once a week.
  • Read 52 books.
  • Work on finding a housing situation which doesn’t make me lonely, and strategies for keeping in touch with best friend/ housemate, once she and her fiance move out.
  • Get more involved with choir community even though it’s scary.
  • Flesh out my current plan of what I want after FI life to look like (though its at least 10 years away).
  • Do something cool with the Raspberry Pi sitting in my cupboard
  • Reduce my Carbon footprint to below world average - I estimate that I can achieve that if I don’t fly at all, reduce non-essential purchases, and start switching to organic food. Offset what’s left.

Health

  • Figure out a healthy (and non-restrictive) meal rotation, with the aim of losing 5kg by the end of the year.
  • Do Park run weekly whenever I’m at home.
  • Finally sort out my terrible posture.

Financial

  • Put £1000/month into savings.
  • Increase my charity spending to 10% of after tax income
  • Keep variable (e.g. non rent, non bills) spending to below £400/ month average.

  • Yoga practice minimum 3x a week.
  • Bike to Mordor (1932 miles)
  • Plant an apple tree in our yard.
  • Minimum once a month date night out and minimum once a month do a thing with friends (work doesn’t count).
  • Increase emergency fund to 6 months

Probably more to come, but this is a start.

YES

Given the list of projects that I came up with trying to get one of my goals done on the November budget thread, 2020 looks like the year of house projects for me. Which actually works out fairly well; usually I rent out the two bedrooms in my basement for the summer through a local program (not visiting nurses, but along similar lines) but this coming summer my father and some other retired relatives wanted to use my place as a home base for some see-the-west travel so I was already figuring I’d take a year off. Now I just need to get my list sorted…

  2. Increase my income (promotion or raise at work/ new job? / new side job(s) )

  3. Pay off one of my smallest student loans (to free up monthly cash flow)

  4. home-cooked work lunch every single day ---- this one is a tad ambitious for me

I hadn’t even realized how soon the new year is already! Here are my goals for next year:

  • Sew at least 12 things. I want to keep on my ultimate goal of a mostly handmade wardrobe and think one thing a month is manageable.
  • Keep trying new dinner or baking recipes. It really makes me happy to try new foods.
  • Grow more in the garden and garden year round.
  • Be more outdoorsy. I’ve been working on this and have been going hiking more often. Bonus with this is I also am inviting others to join in.

So looks like my overarching goal is to get better at being self-sufficient while also fostering friendship.
