Oh, we are doomed anyway. But we do what we can.

Do you have a top loading washer? Ever since we switched to front load I think it’s easier on my clothes but doesn’t clean quite as well.

I do have a top loader washer. Thinking about it more, I would say it doesn’t catch a ton of fibers, just a noticeable amount. Kind of like a film near the seams.

This is a very specific request so there might now be any advice but here it goes!

Does anyone have a pretty good size pond(1/2 acre or so) and have any type of fountain to add oxygen to the water? We are trying to keep down the mosquitos and now we’ve got a lot of algae. It seems like some type of movement in the pond will be a good idea. I have no idea though if I need like a $2000 fountain or like a $200 thing.

Depending on how deep it is and the shape, for something that large I think you’d want something that can really circulate the water rather than just oxygenating the surface. Also, you can get floating planters which will let you grow plants throughout the pond to oxygenate it and remove nutrients at the same time. (You just chop back the plants from time to time and add to your compost etc). Happy to discuss water treatment further! What is the rest of the ecosystem like? Are there any fish or frogs in the pond, or other life e.g. water snails?

I don’t have a pond but I use mosquito dunks in my fountain. They are a naturally occurring bacteria that is formed into a little pick that you put into ponds and other things with standing water. Safe for pets and humans to be around still.

I need to search the pond for wildlife. I don’t think there are fish but I could be wrong! I haven’t yet gotten up the courage to actually go in the pond! Could be anywhere from a few feet to maybe 10feet deep max. There have been tons of birds, turtles, frogs and dragonflies for sure! There are cattails in the pond.

It’s basically an oval shape with trees around the edge. I’ll get pictures later!

Yes! I just put mosquito dunks in. It’s a big pond though so I want to try a few things because we need a lot of dunks to treat it.

Heres some pictures of the pond. Theres for sure some wildlife and this likely is going to be a multi year project to make into a super beautiful healthy pond but that’s ok! I did find water plantains on my treck down there!

One more from my living room window!

Our pond is much smaller, and we’ve found the frogs and tadpoles (and dragonflies) usually keep the mosquito population low, so I’m not going to be much help. We did have a bit of a mosquito buildup late last summer and got it controlled with a cheap floating fountain, but our pond is also much shallower than yours (based on watching the dogs swim, not in getting in myself). No more than five feet at the deepest, I don’t think. As deep as yours is, you’ll need more than surface aeration.

I don’t use mosquito dunks because I’ve read some studies that suggest they interfere with amphibian reproduction.

I honestly have zero clue how deep it might be! Maybe a cheap floating fountain is the way to start and move up potentially from there. I do plan to add more plants but need to research since I live in zone 4.

Floating fountain can’t hurt. We got a little solar one from Amazon for about $20. That was before the post- pandemic inflation.

I need to buy some new clothes because everything I own is now stained and full of holes. Problem is I live somewhere with practically nowhere to buy clothes and also I hate shopping. I used to buy at the Gap but they appear to be a bit too hip for me now. I’m visiting family in a major city this week so I could potentially try things on in person (the dream), but I don’t want to be driving all over the place so want to target my outing. Looking for advice on where I should check out. I’m willing to spend more on clothes that will last me several years so that I don’t have to do this again for a while.

About me:
Mid-30s woman.
Prefer natural fibers.
Full coverage and able to move around easily (no crop tops or shirts that require no bra).
Casual.
Tall, pear-shaped.

Have you tried a service like stitch fix? For the ready to spend more/hate shopping criteria it seems like a great fit, and you can specify preferences that they (theoretically) follow.

No, I haven’t tried anything like that. Guess I’ll look into it.

I think @Economista and @BiblioFeroz have both used it? May have referral bonus code type things.

For what it’s worth, I tried it years ago and specified a preference for natural fibers. That didn’t stop them from sending me several 100% polyester items.

It’s not in store, but Lands End sounds like it might work for you. Old Navy has had some great stuff lately too and has many stores. Department stores are also a great option for looking at lots of different styles in one location.

Yeah unfortunately I’ve heard it’s pretty stylist dependent how much they listen
