Recommendations for favorite storage containers for dry food (flour, sugar, rice, etc?). I have aspirations to being organized and not spreading weevils next time I get them
For coffee, oats and rice, I buy stuff in bulk and put in large mason jars (quart or gallon depending on what it is) and cap with a plastic storage lid. For flour, I don’t use it much so I rubber band the bag then store it inside a closed ziplock in my baking bin.
My friend (who is an avid chef and researches the hell out of everything he buys) loves his Oxo Pop containers.
Not like, Pinterest or anything, but I’ve used this system for many years now and it works well for us And I grew up in an old farm house dealing with mice and stuff, so I’m particular how I store things.
My mom goes nuts over the locking storage containers that are currently on sale at Aldi. I was chastised for not buying any this week.
I like Rubbermaid containers with the red lids! My favorite thing is that while the sets comes in many different sizes they all have the same base size, so you can stack them really easily. You can also often find them really cheap at dollar stores.
I’m talking about these, the narrow ones specifically, but they come in lots of volume sizes.
Sorry if unclear, meds tonight!
I really like Cambros. You can get them at restaurant supply companies.
But of advice requested on fit bits & similar devices from those who have them.
I want something I can out on when I’m going for a walk or doing a routine, not something for 24/7. I want to be able to somewhat passively track my cardio improvements over the next 3-6 months. Chances are high my baby will grab at and steal it on occasion. I would like to track heartrate, steps/ distance, and time.
Is it a fit bit that I want or do I want a different thing? I would like to spend $200 AUD but am open to more IF there is some reason for it. I saw a Fitbit 4 is less than $200 AUD and a Fitbit 5 is almost $300 here.
Have you looked at garmin? I’ve been much happier with garmin gps watches for cardio type performance tracking, but sometimes they are a touch more expensive. I am not sure how different AU pricing is but I think like the forerunner 45 is similar to Fitbit pricing.
And for some reason, I don’t feel obligated to wear it 24/7 like fitbits or apple watches make you feel. I wish I could describe why but it’s a vibe I get.
I also like that the forerunner has a more typical watch size screen, you can easily see all the stats you described and your history without syncing to an app on the phone.
I have a Fitbit charge 4 and it works well for the case you described. BUT - and this is a big problem for me - the battery life is not as long as I would want and it’s very finicky to attach it to the charger. (it’s got exposed pins and doesn’t click into place…very weird design.)
But tracking my distance, steps, heart rate, resting rate over time has been very nice.
See what you can find used and let that guidewhat you decide to use. At this point all the activity trackers are pretty good for basic workout tracking like that. And so many people get them and use them for a bit and then are over it, they’re usually pretty easy to pick up used on marketplace and stuff.
(Avoid any subscription based ones though for this)
I think a Fitbit would do the thing you want. I don’t have any experience with other brands, but I think most of the big names do a decent job of wrist-based heart monitoring. I think looking at the used market is the way to go! My Fitbit charge 3 just died, and I got a replacement for $30usd, used marketsay vary!
Ok, I really appreciated all the advice! I found a Garmin that someone’s selling because they bought the latest version, and they seem to be close enough so hopefully I can meet up with them and buy it!
Uuuh quick question which I will Google as well, best way to give $150 for a transaction like this? I’ve only don’t stuff that was $50 or less where cash is reasonable. Cash still reasonable? Should I use PayPal or something for safety? I just haven’t done this for a while and lack brainpower.
Ask what form of payment they want! If it’s face to face then that’s easy enough to confirm at the time. Some people would rather have the cash, others don’t want the trouble.
The only advantage to Paypal is if you do it as a sale that offers purchase protection, and then PayPal (usually) takes a cut, which most casual sellers are not into.
Here people use Venmo a lot. Not sure if it’s as popular in Australia? Or cash is always a good option!
Sounds like you already found something that’ll work for you, but in case you or somebody else is interested -
I really like my Fitbit inspire 2 because it can work both on the wrist and on a clip. I don’t like wearing anything on my wrist all day but I do like having a pedometer. I generally wear it as a clip on my pants and then switch it to my wrist for heart rate tracking when I’m starting a dedicated exercise session.
Hearing how you use it is really useful. I will check if the one I found does that. The second hand market doesn’t seem huge here so I don’t know if this will work out yet (but I’m hopeful!)
I had a good long think and realised my baby is fascinated with everyone’s watch and I will get a lot more use out of it if I get one that spends most of its time as a pedometer. Thank you for letting me know these exist! So I’ve ordered one, and a clip for it, and it comes with a year’s subscription to Fitbit premium. I will “upgrade” to a secondhand Garmin if I get fit enough for longer bike rides and such by myself - something to work towards!
Talk to me about vacuums! We have a shark right now but it will need replacing in the next year or two. We have: carpet, fake hardwood, and a long hair cat. The cat hair is my husband’s personal nemesis. I keep suggesting a roomba type thing but he is convinced it won’t clean to his standards. Is he right? So tell me about your pet hair approved carpet/hard floor vacuums!
Honestly, for pet hair on hard floors I’ve found a knock off swiffer with reusable pads the easiest! So fast for a quick swipe. And it was $13 on Amazon.
