It’s interesting because it’s a rule that isn’t communicated but many people infer (incorrectly!)
Also there’s something like 7500 words that are valid guesses, but only 2500 possible solutions (if that makes sense!)

Summary
I do wonder - say the answer only has one of a certain letter but your guess has two. Does only one of the two letters turn yellow? Might one turn green and one turn yellow even though it only appears one time? The simplest algorithm would evaluate each letter in the guess without considering the other letters, so my guess is both letters would turn a color other than gray.

Yes! If you guess 2 bunny, and there is only one n in the real answer, one turns yellow/green and the other grey. I had this happen recently

I admit to using a Scrabble word finder and supplying it with the unused letters for words 3 and 4 to help with the process of elimination.
