Strategy
Switching one of my starting words from Girly to Glyph has been working out well because even if I don’t directly eliminate the letter i there still only do many options for vowel combinations. So it’s more about sacrificing an R to check P and H.

I could see at least five possibilities after my second guess but I just picked the most common word and got lucky.
I used the right-click trick and we’ll see if I it works tomorrow.
I’m also saddened that NYT is buying it, and will probably paywall it. I already pay $8 every four weeks to have access to articles. Access to certain puzzles is another $5 every four weeks which just seems kind of skewed to me, like a handful of puzzle creators are worth nearly as much as all of the journalists. Unlike the crossword or vertex, it’s not even like someone needs to create this puzzle every day! It’s all, already created.
On the other hand, newspapers are suffering and need to find creative sources of revenue. But so far I’ve not felt the price is worth access to Vertex, which realistically is the only one of the paywalled puzzles I’d actually want to try daily.
