I use vulva (or as she says, “bulva”) unless she starts rummaging and pointing out different areas, then I try to get more specific.
Poop she knows comes out of her anus because she was saying something hurt that was different from her butt (constipation-related) though most of the time we just say butt.
“It’s not the stork” has been excellent for this. Latte has picked up that she and new sister were made in some sort of special way, since she Hears All Always. I’ve managed to avoid talking about the act of sex and IVF and everything while still answering her questions but like. Damn kids. And why do they always bust this stuff out at breakfast when you’re exhausted, or the second you’re about to close their bedroom door at night? anyway, my sympathies
Yes! Kiddo still flips through it and also look through the next book for 7+ which is called something like “It’s So Amazing”. But that reminds me I need to find a scientific video of sperm, preferably in testicles if such a video exists, because Kiddo was asking if the picture of a bunch of sperm going down a slide is what it actually looks like inside his testicles.
I need to order an actual personal copy of the book and not just keep checking it out because it definitely comes up enough I’d like to have it as a reference, not to mention the free access to information aspect.
Haha yeah it was at bedtime after she had been quiet for a while (followed after another 10 minutes of silence by the equal gut punch of “Friend1 called me a baby but I’m NOT a baby! And then Friend2 said yes you are a baby…so that was a tricky thing that happened today”).
Spouse and I are both scientists so we talked about how we made her with a mix of genes from mom and dad and she grew up in my tummy until she was big enough to be a baby. Seemed to satisfy her for the time being but I’ll check out the book!
We also like “how to Make A Baby” that Duckling sometimes reads to himself. Its lower information level and talks about eggs and sperm having “stories” that go together to make a baby. It also mentions miscarriage as “sometimes this grows to make a baby and sometimes does not” which i used as a jumping off to tell Duckling that I had a miscarriage before Pumpkin and he was so very very sad and totally kind of got it. And then i had to manage very very sad kid at bedtime.
I need to get a copy of “its not the stork”, which i thought was the book i grew up reading but just has a similar picture in my head to the book i grew up with which was “Where Did I Come From” by Peter Mayle.
