US-ians, did you VOTE?

Yeah, same. Happy for them I guess, they got what they wanted.

I’m sure misogyny played a role but I don’t think it’s that simple.

I’m an independent, I vote democratic most of the time.
I had hesitations about Harris that I didn’t have about Nikki Haley for example.

To me Harris is largely untested in a governing situation. Haley has experience as a governor, I know she knows world politics, has negotiated on the world stage and held her own with Trump both as a candidate and while UN Ambassador.

In her four years as VP, Harris wasn’t in the public eye much. It was clear during her campaign she’d learned a lot in those four years, but I gotta admit I still would have been nervous this morning if she’d won. Both about violence etc. from the right but also if she really has what it takes to lead this country through the changes we need to go through versus just more of the same.

In a Harris - Haley matchup I’d have probably voted for Haley even though I don’t agree with her positions as much. I just have more confidence in her as a leader.

Our editor gave us a lil speech about how our job is local news and our listeners are depending on us to give them context - and hope - around the national political landscape.

And it’s a good reminder. I’m a professional talker but also a professional tongue-biter.

I do have a great community to plug into and I know I need to engage and keep fighting the good fight. But damn, I’m tired.

I am actively so tired today but also I got 5.5 hours of sleep last night and I’m just shit at getting that little sleep.

Also my little bus reporting series was paused for this week because 1) we can all take a fucking nap and 2) listeners don’t want a lighthearted bus travel story right now

Same in liberal stronghold OR. Could be a factor in her losing Michigan too.

Definitely a factor in losing MI. I live up here and many voted uncommitted in the primary to send a message. That message wasn’t received so definitely votes were cast for Stein or withheld.

Although Slotkin/Rogers is still to close to call so some let down feelings for Dems down the ballot.

Far too many either didn’t vote or actually voted for Trump because of Gaza. I talked to I don’t know how many far left students who were planning to vote for Trump as if it were some kind of statement of solidarity with Gaza or some shit. Well, they got what they asked for.

CNN agrees that most Trump voters cited the economy as the most important issue. And NPR has been interviewing people for months and the hesitant Trump voters are like “well economically things were better under Trump than Biden”

… Like there are no other factors involved there outside Biden’s control. Presidents aren’t gods, and if you want a managed economy isolated from external factors, uhh that’s the Communism you’re so afraid of (and frankly doesn’t work).

I’m just gonna leave this here for everybody

I’m grieving today, but this is also my perspective, prior to the general election and as we move forward after it. I am comforted by the local results in our shared state; I do believe that I will continue to be safer and less impacted by the new administration than if I lived elsewhere.

A mood for today from a league of their own

I’m really depressed and the thing that sucks is that I can’t commiserate with my spouse. He’s not a hard-right Trumper, but he doesn’t like anything the democrats stand for, and just doesn’t feel particularly upset. I don’t mind disagreeing, but I hate not feeling understood. It’s like he actually doesn’t understand what this means re: women and misogyny. He’s been able to live without worrying about any of that stuff.
