Early voted in person on Friday in Wisconsin. I wanted to bring my 4yo daughter, but not deal with any post-work/school crowds on election day.
I told her I was choosing the person I thought would be the best leader for all of the country and she very loudly in the middle of city hall said “what’s their name?” So then we had to talk about secret ballots and privacy.
I voted and feel so lucky to be in CO! I have only ever mail in voted since 2012 and I love being able to take my time and research at home. I also feel lucky that our ballot drop off is on the way to our favorite park so we voted on a nice and sunny day walking with the family.
I realized today that I don’t remember ever voting in person! I must have skipped at least one presidential election when I was in college I was more conservative and far less informed/concerned about how our country worked.
It is amazing to be able to complete my ballot at home with at least two voting guides mailed by the state to reference. My closest drop off is next to the drive-up library drop box (which I also use often, haha).
ETA - sorry, I’m looking at election reading instead of working, so there’s just more info! Colorado allows counties to start tallying mail ballots the Monday 2 weeks before election day (21Oct this year) even though results can’t be reported until 7 pm on election day. I didn’t realize we did that, it must speed up results SO much.
Now that I read this, I’m not sure I have either. Just looking at the ‘big’ years I was too young in 2000, in 2004 I was in college and paying pretty much zero attention (although since my home state at that point was a very red state that still likes to find reasons to avoid registering people I’m not sure it would have gone well anyway). In 2008 I’d just barely gotten to Colorado, but I think I must have signed up for mail-in voting when I switched my license and registration because the first ballots had the same typo they originally put on my license and I wasn’t totally sure I was voting legally for a while.
We voted by mail (the best!!) in Oregon and gave our ballots to our friend to drop off when she took us to the airport to go to India!
Had been concerned because our ballots were supposed to arrive on the same day but mine showed up and Marmalade’s didn’t (sign up for Informed Delivery with USPS if you want to get a daily email with scans of your incoming mail!), and none of the neighbors got it by accident, but thankfully it showed up several days later!!
I voted by mail a week or so ago. I had the same issue as @neovonretorch where my inner envelope was stuck closed and I had to wiggle it open. I taped it shut so hopefully it’s still considered OK… I did get a notification that my ballot was received but not yet one that it was counted.
D voted in person today and took the wiggler, who was delighted to receive a “Future Voter” sticker.
Voted early in person on Friday and had a line even though they moved to a bigger room with more than twice the machines as before. Then drove by three different polling places today when I’d never seen cars before, and all three were very busy.
My coworker said his polling place (a school) had a line around the building and that a worker said it had been crazy all morning. I drove by it after work and there were so many cars there!
The R’s in GA et all got complacent in 2020 and feel more drive to vote.
Harris is a woman.
But probably both.
ETA: there’s also probably a dip on the Harris side because of D’s voting for Stein over Palestine/Israel. I don’t think the number of Stein voters would actually have moved the Harris needle, but I think it will be visible in the data.
The stein thing makes me so sad. I know so many people who voted Harris despite it feeling personally challenging. But also surrounded by (admittedly blue state) Muslim voters who voted stein or abstain and I feel nauseous.
