Tiny Complaints

It was incredibly important for me. Literally gave me most of the wings I have. I was able to start at a state school as a junior with a full ride scholarship. It opened me up to so, so much of the world. Probably one of the single most formative things of my world view, in retrospect. I can’t help but think it was a huge part of helping me separate from the very black and white world view I was raised with.

Ah, thanks. I’ve never heard of something like that here (doesn’t mean it doesnt exist here)

Google suggests that there are quite a few IB programs in Australia!

My dd went to United World College which has campuses in a number of countries. I highly recommend it for motivated students. It’s free for the 50 students admitted from the US every year, at any rate. It also came with college scholarships and meant she could have gone to college in Europe if she had wanted to.

My daughter did IB (rather than VCE) in her last 2 years of high school in Victoria. I think perhaps 20-30 schools in Victoria offer it, mostly private but some government schools. There’s also a primary and middle years IB curriculum which is becoming more widely available in schools here in Vic. The IB marks are translated across to the Australian equivalent score for university etc entry. As well as VCE type subjects, philosophy, a research project, and community service are mandatory.

Just checked, all in private schools here. Sounds like a cool program but not sure I want to pay $20k/year for it.

Oh gosh! Ours was in a public school program.

Yeah, and that was for the oy non-religious private school offering it. Some religious schools may be a bit cheaper but are a no-go for our family. If we move away from the city there are no options.

Yes, there are quite a few public school IB programs in the US.

The nice thing about DD’s school is that UWC only offers the IB, so it all focused on that. Also, it’s in a castle in New Mexico…

I just realized I have to be at work and in meetings and a team lunch for three and a half hours tomorrow. And I might have to go in again on Friday. How the f did I keep “Polite Business Face” going for eight hours a day five days a week back in the before times?

People here “know” me and yet NO ONE has ever recommended I watch How to Get Away With Murder and now I’m on season two and I love it and I’m furious at all of you for hiding this show from me. My IRL friends have also apparently been holding out on me and will be getting a stern talking to ASAP.

It’s like I can’t trust anyone anymore. Sigh.

I’ve got nothing, dude. Boyfriend and I always talk about how we are now completely feral and not fit for public display in an office.

This package issue still isn’t sorted (never got the package and don’t have a replacement yet), and the package woes continue.

On Saturday, I was expecting a different package and made sure to be home. Someone buzzed the intercom, so I opened the building door for them and went downstairs to grab the package right away. No package, no mail carrier, no slip. The tracking says that delivery failed due to a lack of a secure location, and that I could pick up the package at the post office starting today. Annoying, but okay given the string of potentially stolen packages lately.

Was the package at the post office this morning? No. Will they try to redeliver? No idea. Do I just need to wait another day or two and try the post office again? Who can say.

Hospital put the wrong point of service on a bill so insurance rejected it so now I get to make a bunch of phone calls to both sides. :rage:

That stinks. Hope it doesn’t take too long to sort it out.

take home exams that are “open note” but contain only questions that have nothing to do with anything covered in the notes. :grimacing:

Any professor who gives you a take home exam and tried to restrict the resources you use is just punishing the honest students and deserves zero respect.

As a professor, I recommend you use Internet or whatever else will help.
