Got a book from the library. Sounded good from the synopsis. From the first chapter, I can already tell there’s going to be an infertility arc. Nope, I’m out.
Ugh.
Damn I hate that. Would you mind sharing which book?
Outlander. (Diana Gabaldon)
It’s not how you think. Want a spoiler?
I struggled with this. I mean yes, but also no. But also plenty of other trauma. And then there’s the stuff in books and um… It’s complicated.
I’ve read first 2 books and have watched 3 seasons of the show.
Yeah, I stopped reading because there is so much horrible shit. But I don’t think the baby stuff is what BJ is thinking. Not remotely.
Hmm. Much horrible shit is also not sounding incredibly appealing right now, especially with how slowly I’m currently moving through books. But interesting that the heavy “so disappointed didn’t happen this month either” hints aren’t foreshadowing.
There are much better books out there. Galbadon’s books have some fantastic moments and clever plots but are kind of awful enough of the time that I can’t.
Spoilers
Well Frank is canonically infertile, and then in book 2 Claire has that horrible late term miscarriage in Paris. I feel like it would likely strike some chords.
Yeah trigger warnings for those books would run the fucking gamut. Definitely not light and fluffy, although I do find the central relationship in the story one of my favourites.
This is good to know! Alternatives most happily accepted.
What do you want? Fast paced, adventure, funny, romantic?
Lauren Willig’s Pink Carnation series is about british spies in empire france. An mix of the Scarlet Pimpernel and Zorro and romantic comedy and maybe a hint of Jane Austen.
I like the Outlander books but they need massive TWs for sexual assault, spousal abuse, probably other things I am forgetting as it’s been a while.
The zipper on one of the cushion covers on my couch broke this last time I washed it. I have no idea how to fix it, because I hate sewing zippers.
To be fair, I got the couch second hand at least 15 years ago. It’s somewhere between 20 and 40 years old, so it’s done well, but I LOVE IT, and I don’t want a new couch
I haven’t read the books but we loved the Outlander tv show and have watched all the seasons. It’s brutal at times but a reflection of the time period. It’s fast paced with action and love plots.
Man I really wish libraries would tag stuff with content warning.
Allie Broch’s new book came in the mail finally, so this will probably take me another month to read given my current pace. Thank you anyway! I’ll circle back around and see what my “needs” are at the time.
Yes! Like, I really, really need to know whether the dog dies, or the cat dies, before deciding whether to read something or not as that’s my particular trigger.
