Tiny Complaints

The company I interviewed with in KS messed up and my card got charged for the hotel and car rental. Tiny because it’ll get fixed and I won’t have to pay, complaint because I had to talk to people to get it fixed.

I’m tired and a lot is going on at work and I am not at ALL in the mood to leave the office in 45 minutes and go to therapy and try and work on my shit. I just don’t have the brain for it right now.

Omg. I have like 50 thousand pre-prepped rants about this.

I have now checked the markets. Oops! Trying to think of this as hopefully buying stocks on sale on Friday when my paycheck pops through…

I don’t want to talk about why but this is the worst day in months.

Because my baby is having feeding struggles, and my brother and his fiancé are getting married in Mexico, we probably have to miss the wedding. :disappointed_relieved: this is a big complaint, honestly.

And unfortunately that is really saying something. Day - stop be crappy to Smacky or the Smackyverse.

I’ve been on maternity leave from a group I admin, but my temporary covering person accidentally caused a fair bit of drama, and now I have to deal with it and go back to adminning and I don’t have time or energy for this.

I brought potato and spinach dinosaur bites for breakfast today, only I didn’t realize how low calorie they were. :sob: I just ate the rest of them for a snack and looked on the back of the package. The entire package (3.5 servings) is under 500 calories.
Ya’ll a 140 calorie serving does not an Oro breakfast make, even with a banana and some peanuts thrown in.

I vote ham. Ham is an excellent solution :joy: (this message brought to you by some very tasty ham at breakfast this morning…)

My gym (that I have a membership to in large part because it has a pool) now has a swim team practicing there every freaking weekday from 5 pm - 8 pm, leaving only 1 or 2 lanes open for lap swimming.

My little dude also had a terrible day, and I can talk about his experience.

At school he has only one friend, and this kid has been his friend for 5 years. They are tightly bonded.
You should also know that our community and little dude’s school are mostly indigenous and newcomer. White people are a minority. Little dude and I have talked many times about the histories of indigenous people and the current challenges faced by indigenous people and newcomers, and the importance of being an ally and using our white privilege to support the people around us. These are core values at our house.

Today little dude’s one and only friend said something horribly racist. Little dude got upset and friend would not walk it back. Now little dude is drowning in tears because he had to choose between his only friend and his values. He is stressed and miserable. I have no useful advice. He told me about it while we did a big job together and I could listen, but what do you say?

I am so, so sorry Little Dude is going through this. This is a really hard lesson to learn at such a young age.

What I would tell a peer, an adult, is you need to decide which you value more and if you can live with knowing your closest friend feels like this about other people.

If you feel that your friend can change their way of thinking and their behavior, is it worth your time and energy to help them change? If they don’t want to change, is this something you can live with?

If the answer to either question is no, then it will be very hard but maybe it’s time to walk away.

Your answer is basically what we talked about. It’s a useful and reasonable approach. The confounding factor is that both of them have autism and the friend has a very very low IQ. He is parroting what he hears at home with no comprehension, and doesn’t realize that he’s about to lose his only friend for it.
After a day of little dude crying at his desk, friend asked if he could come over after school. Little dude yelled no and ran home.

Kid just messaged me to tell me I shouldn’t come. It’s not just a freak-out anymore. It’s really bad. The government is shutting down more services every day, and there are confirmed cases on the US base he works on.

Obviously this is an actual big complaint because worldwide pandemic, etc., but I am selfishly sitting here literally sobbing about missing my first chance in the last year and a half to see my kid.
