So you could occasionally hang out with me?
I went with a local business for some work on our house. The technician said I could pay over the phone by credit card. I called a few times and left a message but never got through to anyone. Today someone in the office actually picked up but apparently only the owner can process payments, so I’ll be mailing in a check because I have no desire to call them again. Why would a business make it difficult to pay them??
We have a gas stove at the new place (immense victory!) but I forgot one crucial aspect of how gas stoves heat differently from electric coil… which is that they heat up pot handles. Cue me lifting a pot of pasta three inches off the stove until I screeched and said “fuck fuck fuck” and put that pasta right back down.
(TV is that I have butternut squash raviol with sage browned butter?)
It’s really kind of awful. I hated being pregnant. But I also loved it, because it’s weird and AMAZING. You actually grow a human being! You create a whole person! I look at my 12 and 9 year olds and I’m still astounded by the fact that I made them, my body just turned a clump of cells into these… people. Walking, talking, feeling, thinking people. Holy shit.
I sat too long at my desk and now the cafeteria is closed and I can’t get lunch. At least I got a free banana
YES
Until my dudes started eating solids every molecule in their body (except for one) had come from my body. Mind blowing.
Ah. Didn’t think about you not having control over the lights – I have a switch I can just flip.
My laundry basket is overflowing but didn’t I just do the washing?
I’m hungry right now, but food isn’t ready right now
I’m really tired but I can’t sleep.
My left arm hurts a lot and I don’t like it.
I’m really thirsty but if I drink water I’ll have to pee but it’s probably too late and I’ll probably have to pee anyway.
I had nearly two good solid decades of my bladder not causing problems while I sleep but I guess those days are over.
Mint is broken. AGAIN. Now it’s duplicated my checking account, the the CC I use for groceries. I hate it, but I won’t have the time for ‘track everything manually’ and anything with auto import has been just as bad or worse for us.
Haaaaaate.
Mint has been a problem for you forever. Is there some other program you can migrate to? I’m sure people around here would be happy to donate opinions on what is best if you want them.
Well, the issue with the auto imports is that our accounts are linked at our bank and as AUs on cards, so any service that uses the auto imports will end up in a circle with duplicating accounts as a result. It’s happened on all of them I’ve tried. And I am 1000000000000% unwilling to manually enter every single transaction with a newborn. Ain’t gonna happen. Since we track more than budget, too, it really removes a lot of incentive. I do want to change, at some point, but frankly I don’t see anything else working any better that isn’t manual tracking.
Can you just get the data via your bank?
Like go to the bank page for some things and use mint for others? Or what? Cuz we have three bank accounts and like 15 CCs. Manual check ins would be hell NOW, much less trying to stay on top of finances with a newborn.
ETA one of the big challenges is SirB has like 10-30 individual professional expenses per week that get billed out and need tracked for reimbursement. We’re talking a LOT of transactions.
I’ve never used Personal Capital so I don’t even know if it tracks actual transactions, but most of my friends with multiple accounts who used Mint have gone to PC.
Can you designate each credit card as a specific spending category, and then have all the statements sent to an email account used only for that purpose (or check your bank statement to see what you paid to each card)?
So CC1 could be for groceries, CC2 for SirB’s work stuff, CC3 baby things, etc. It might take some effort up front to make sure you aren’t using the wrong card but then you could have a general idea of how much you spend in specific categories without having to review all the transactions manually.
I agree that entering transactions manually is not the way to go.
Oh - I thought with the links you had almost everything linked via one bank. I was thinking you could use the bank data directly, or download a spreadsheet ( then possibly upload to Mint).
Various links break in Personal Capital - I got tired of trying to fix it and so gave up. Especially once I had one link that I just could not fix. Screw that.
