We are 5 years into remote work! Mute yourself when you are not talking if there is background noise! I can hear my coworker’s wife talking clearly in the background!
on teams, anyone can mute anyone else - it will notify the person that “you were muted by a person in the meeting” but I don’t think it tells you which person?
If someone doesn’t realize they are not muted and is about to say something that will get them in trouble / I can hear their kids / etc, I have no problem with pushing that button. (I will never push it on someone who is actively talking or presenting of course). One time i pushed it because a co worker was not muted, but was in the office, and the two staff sitting behind him not in the meeting were gossiping. He was not actively talking at that moment.
This might be an organization level setting.
The PM stepped in.
I don’t have access to do that seemingly.
it might be, but we (Luna and I) discovered it when she was running a Brownie meeting on teams, and one girl kept muting her.
We tested it on my office teams, and it worked there too
this is pretty funny
We have a skunk overwintering under our oldest shed. We were planning on tearing it down this spring… Ah… ?
AI everywhere, including on my phone when I’m doing phone calls (supposedly to make the call more clear). I turned that off in the settings but I wish it was opt in to begin with instead of making people opt out.
I ordered these ridiculous fabulous bedazzled Elton John-like reading glasses online and they are really heavy and uncomfortable.
What’s that joke about the levels of tech friendly and the third level is “I have a printer from the 90s and will not have anything more current, and I have a baseball bat handy just in case the printer starts acting shifty.” Yeah.
This complaint is not tiny, but we don’t have a big complaints thread. I currently help out with a diabetes education class at the free clinic where I volunteer. It’s been tough to have consistency with the holidays, but we were hoping to get people back in the swing of things this week. Yesterday no one showed up…I sent out a text just to ask if everyone was ok, and to tell them I hope to see them next week. In response someone replied and said they are too scared to leave the house because of the fear of being kidnapped by ICE.
Obviously this is and has been the reality for so many people for much longer than I’ve been living here or aware of it, but hearing so directly from someone was still like a gut punch. These patients are already so underresourced, and have so few opportunities to get help with their chronic health issues, especially in a language they understand. We spent a long time last night brainstorming about alternatives to enable people to continue to participate while feeling safe. Virtual is obviously the answer, but then there are complications of people not having internet at home, not having computers, not a lot of tech experience, etc. There isn’t really a good solution right now, and obviously it’s just one small thing, but it’s really weighing heavy today
That is so awful.
I’m glad they at least feel they can be honest with you. I wish they didn’t have to make these choices.
Oh for fucks sake - how heartbreaking.
((hugs))
can there be a text based support system/whatsapp group text option? (I’m assuming Signal is a step too far for the audience)
We actually do have a whatsapp group text already! We don’t get a lot of traction with it, but we are considering doing group calls through whatsapp since everyone does already have that. I think what draws people to participate is the group discussions and learning from each other, so we want to be able to continue to facilitate live discussion in some way
I was going to suggest group calls, even if you had to do straight up phone calls.
