High of 96 again today. I am tired of complaining about the weather but I just can’t.
I would hate to deal with anything in the California real estate market - even rentals!
There has been a lot of delayed (“Frugal”) maintenance - it is inevitable that something will need to be fixed. Last month the dryer broke - it was 28 years old - it had earned it’s retirement! Garage door opener came with the house - so it is at least 20 years old. We don’t use it everyday - so that may have extended it’s life. But still - old things that sit around break down too.
I have mosquito bites, and bruises, and a bite on top of a bruise. I guess that’s the price of visiting beautiful mountain lakes…
Someone is using “Analytics” to mean “We looked at something and made a couple notes” rather than “we prepped actual data, did statistical analysis, and created a product containing actionable insight”
I now have to explain this to someone who things that an infographic is the same as artificial intelligence.
LOL! if there is a way to point this out via questions (what stats did you do? how did you collect the data? etc) to make is clear to others that they didn’t do any analytics - that could be fun.
I wish I could get video of the conversation! At the very least, I’ll report back with details.
I’m hungry and cranky and still have half the work day left.
My employer recently switched us to a new company for our 401k and I can’t get my online login set up even though I spent like ten minutes working my way through an automated phone system. I think I’d rather just work the rest of my life and let my heirs figure out how to access my account.
Grace and Frankie is ending after one more season.
I winced reading this. Sorry, brute.
Oh, oh god. This is painful. cringe
Update: forty minutes later I now have an account set up. My new tiny complaint is that I hate the online platform of the new company, but my company will probably change who our 401ks are with in a few years anyway so I probably won’t be stuck with it forever…
It’s slightly too hot for the outfit I am wearing to my job interview but it’s the best outfit I have.
You are going to do so well. Knock em dead!
I can’t get anything out of the library on my Kobo because I have a $1.50 fee. I can’t pay this fee except in person… and I don’t have any way to physically get myself to the library.
Ponder has promised to drop in and pay it. But RIGHT NOW I can’t read books. (Unless I use Ponder’s library card… never mind problem solved…)
Kiddo’s well visit in July indicated he’d need to see an eye doctor.
Appointment attempt 1: We ended up at an opthamologist? When we arrived at the office the office manager twigged that something wasn’t right, apologies were made, office person who made the appointment had Stern Words directed at them (they didn’t think I could hear), I dropped of Very Sad Kid at day care despite repeated explanations that it wasn’t a Mommy And Me kind of day, it was a “We need to get appointments done” morning followed by day care.
Appointment attempt 2: (Context: Kiddo’s insurance is specifically for kids under five years old.) Office is in network but they don’t take patients younger than five years old.
2b. Immediately got on the phone with insurance to get the name of other in network offices, called another one … they don’t take kids younger than ten.
2c. Asked local Facebook parent group. This is what it has come to, freaking Facebook. Responses are 100% [doctor name].
Appointment attempt 3. Called [doctor name] office, am told a referral is needed. Called pediatrician office and requested referral. Weeks later (today) I called [doctor name] office and oh hey they had received a referral, so let’s get that scheduled. YES FUCKING PLEASE. First available appointment is late November, am I available then. APPARENTLY I AM. (I was, actually, but anything else would have been cancelled even if I did have prior plans that day because omfg.)
Once upon a time back in July I thought we’d have it sorted out before the school year started. Lulz. To add insult to injury, I then had to update three different calendars to say I’ll be out a half day two months from now.
This is ridiculous.

Summary
MyFitnessPal is pissing me off. It is somehow very broken. It will take allotted calories away overnight??? So if I complete the day with 60 calories remaining, I’ll wake up and look back and it’ll say I was 40 calories over??? This has happened multiple days now and I don’t get it and can’t find any information online. Grumble grumble.
Are you using a fitbit or anything like that? Mine will take away allotted calories if I’ve been less active than it expected over the day, and add calories if I’m more active than expected. I think it probably assumes that you will average a certain # of calories burned each hour depending on your reported activity level, and even if you burn MORE than average earlier in the day, it might assume you will continue a regular average burn rate throughout the day.
You may be able to fix this by going into MY HOME->Settings->Calorie adjustments and unchecking “enable negative calorie adjustments.” May not work because it might just mean the least it can add is 0, but worth a shot?
It does sync with my Fitbit, I guess that’s what’s going on. It’s just weird when it’s like… I checked as of 9pm then went to bed. Did it expect me to burn additional calories over what I did while asleep, in spite of it being my usual bed time?? Just so weird.
